So I took a chance since I heard good things about Krona Kruiser replating service and I was happy with the results. Total Cost $58.00 for both that is after discounts. He only does Nickel Plated, but I am happy. Sent a old 1930's Gillette to Restore Razor to get it plated in it original gold. Will see how that turns out. Website: http://www.kronakruiserrazors.com/ I sent a Gillette Slim (M2) and a very bad SS (Y2). Here are the results. Before After. After (did not take a before, but it was not pretty.)
Will the nickel plate last looking good long? It looks as shiny as chrome but will it last as long and eventually start to look like a dull Gillette razor?
Nickel plate will look good as long as you take care of it. I have a couple 40+ yr old S&W revolvers in Nickel that still look fantastic. If it does start looking worse for wear, just a touch of flitz or Maas90 will do the trick.
If you look at the overall finish which is nice and at $29 I could not say no. I will get a razor done at razor emporium even though I have heard some very bad things and their BBB rating of F. These are based on 2011/2012 complaints so I will give them a chance with another slim, since I have 4 of them. I have two Fatboys that could use a new look, thinking of one in Rhodium and the other in Black Chrome. After that I will have to wait and probably send the others out piecemeal.
He plates with bright nickel. He did a Gillette New for me a little over a year ago, and it looks great. I am thinking about getting my Slim done.
I know that is what his site said but not sure what "bright" nickel is and what makes it different from regular nickel.
I checked out the West Coast Razors website and I skeptical since nickel, chrome, black chrome and Rhodium are all priced the same at $80 while a Fatboy is $89. Many of the links do not work on the bottom of the page, Service is in Spanish, and other issues. As a IT Tech who specializes in security this raise red flags. They have Silver & Rose Gold Restoration Service - Free, um that makes no sense, I will email them and see what is the real deal is.
The reason this site is not functional is that it states " This is a demo store for testing purposes — no orders shall be fulfilled" not a good beginning.
West Coast is fine, they haven't put any effort into their website for the better part of 2 years and since it's ultra basic layout showed up. Most of his business comes from his eBay store.
Your razor looks really well done grats! He does great work and excellent customer service, I have a 81 Long handle super adjustable that he cleaned and re coated the black handle, also just bought last week a replated vintage german open comb that isnt just gorgeous but works flawlessly and has become my favorite ravor out of 6 I own. Big props to krona.
Sam at Krona Kruiser has my 59 Fatboy and 64 Slim as I type... As soon as I get them back..will post a few pics. I've heard nothing but praise from Sam's work
