Hello there. I just joined after lurking around these parts a while. I see some posts by some familiar folks and look forward to conversations about shaving with DE razors (vintage Gillettes in particular). I've been using DE's since the spring of 2013 and enjoy it greatly. I like to find the regular three piece Gillette models such as Olds, NEWs and Techs and do my best to remove scratches and dings from the top caps then have them re-plated in bright nickel. My personal favorite is the Old Type (thick cap 102A) with the stock ball end handle. I'm also a big fan of both Cella and Tabac. Tallowy goodness. Cheers.
Welcome @Laird! Thanks for de-lurking. Now we can converse. Sounds like you've begun to develop your preferences. I'm with you on vintage Gillettes & Tabac. Where do you stand on brushes & post shave products?
Thanks. I've never tried a badger brush but have had good results with my boars (Omega 10005, Semogue 610 and SOC). I really like my synthetic Plisson La Maison du Barbier. Post shave is usually Proraso Green Splash or AV Blue followed a few minutes later with Nivea Men Sensitive "cooling" balm blended in the palm of my hand with whatever cologne I'm choosing that day. Summer months will be colognes that pair easily with the aftershaves but fall and winter I omit the splashes and use the balm blended with something like Tabac or G.F. Trumper Eucris. I find blending with the balm improves the longevity of the scent.
