Hi, has anyone ever come across what I think is possibly a French straight razor? It has JANE inside a diamond and also 89 or 98 stamped on the tang and what looks like l'etonnant etched on the blade ? I have looked all over but found nothing, if anyone has got any info on one of these I would love to hear Many thanks Gra Stop press It appears the French word etonnant means Suprising or Amazing... So it's The Suprising straight razor ???
sonnant looks as much like etonnant, as 89 looks like 98. S'il vous plait, use a camera with a decent lens and post pictures.
Your request, Defiantly Etonnant as for 98 or 86 I'm thinking its 86 more but then another time it's 98 Whatever you have any ideas ??? Talking to some guy today at an empourium who said there was a Jane + Pierre making razors in France linked to good family /brand but he couldn't remember the name which is a real pain Gra
Nothing at all on the tang or the blade just some rust spots. And nothing printed on the box either Gra
I think it may be French. https://www.ebay.fr/itm/ancien-raso...iermesser-razor-/303131820136?redirect=mobile
Great link many thanks, I hadn't even considered there might be a French e bay out there ! The JANE and 86 are identical and the box on le bay is stamped made in France so there is a big clue, this feels like a good breakthrough thanks I really appreciate it Gra
That's interesting as they say you live and learn! I managed to get hold of a friend of mine who is fluent in French and married to a French girl to translate His reply... Etonnant means ‘surprising’ or ‘amazing’ or ‘astonishing’ so ‘l’etonnant’ is equivalent to saying ‘ the surprising/amazing one’ or ‘the one who surprises/amazes’. Can refer to either a person or an object. In this case a razor. The Amazing Razor. Or the Astonishing Razor Quite a declaration. Gra
