Well a little while back while talking with Bill i told Bill of my liking for a wood mostly used and seen across the other side of the pond the good old USA, well Bill said he would try and get hold of some, well the rest is history so to speak, i had been looking at a vintage Simpson 59 from the Somerset era, also 59 being the year I was born so there we have it, well all i can say is the brush turned out as you would expect from Bill perfect, with a Buckeyed Burl body with an amber and sterling silver insert, a super Badger 26mm knot and a 50mm loft, all that's left are the photo's. Jamie.
Jamie, you have excellent tastes in shaving equipment! Great Brush! Bill that was an excellent job on that brush!
Very cool, that wood looks amazing! Is that insert from the vintage Simpson brush? (that cocobolo one beside it looks not too shabby as well)
I...I...I....don't know whether to love you or hate you. ....but seriously, those are some gorgeous brushes!!! WooHoo!
It is actually the amber and sterling silver insert that I was curious about. That's interesting about the Lignum Vitae. I've never worked with it and the only pieces that I have seen were very rough. I didn't realize that it had such interesting grain and colour.
Regarding the Lignum vitae i've been told even though it's probably the hardest and most dense wood in the world it actually sinks in water, now that's a first for wood, but actually Bill the brush maker as told me it's a dream to work with on the lathe, also the Buckeyed Burl was sourced by Bill from the states when i told him i wanted a brush made from this material. Regards Jamie
