... with my first post here. Hello everybody, my name is Michael, and I'm an alco..... Oops, sorry, wrong meeting... I thought this was Tuesday night :ashamed001 Anyway, not an total newbie to wet shaving - been at it for a couple of years now. My dad always wet shaved. He used a Shick Injector and Gillette tube cream for as long as I can remember. He must have used a DE at one time, as I remember my mother had a few of them in the laundry room, that she used for shaving lint off clothes... My first razors were actually electrics. Used them for years. Didn't want the hassle that my dad went through every morning, and the electrics seemed to do the trick for me, although they were anything but close, and I had to shave twice per day. And they irritated my face. So I eventually ended up with a Bic double, then a triple, and Gillette canned Foamy goo. I then progressed to soap & brush, but still with the Bic triple. Finally I got myself a DE. Then another. Then another. My collection is still rather spartan, but it serves me well. Thus far: Brushes: Wilkinson Sword Boar Omega Pro Boar Soaps: (I'm a bowl latherer) Wilkinson Sword Blue Bowl Proraso Green Tub Tabac Cella (in transit as I write this) Razors: Merkur 25C Merkur 1904 (42N) Merkur 39C Slant Blades: Feather Personna Super Lab/Prep (Blue wrapper) A/S: Pinaud Clubman Clubman Bay Rum Clubman Lilac Vegital Clubman Special Reserve Old Spice Booster Mosswood I would dearly love to "graduate" to a straight razor, but the bottom line is that I'm a total klutz with sharp objects. Every new kitchen knife I've ever bought, I've "christened" with my own blood. I've been forbidden to ever use power tools. So I'm resigned to staying with the safety razor option. My next adventurous acquisition will be a puck of the much vaunted Williams Soap!! Simply must try the stuff. I greatly enjoy reading the forums here, and over at B&B, and I'm glad to be here! And now, if you'll excuse me, I think it's time for a shave... -Michael Forgot to mention - I'm a professional musician from Toronto, Canada, and my other interests include fine fedoras and good Cuban cigars!
Welcome to the den, nice joke at the start, you will fit in fine. As for straights, I just started using a shavete and I christened it with my first shave, but I learned a major lesson, don't rush, now 3 shaves on it takes me 25 mins to shave with it but it is closer than my 2 gillette SS's but I still enjoy using them, I would love to upgrade too a fully fledged straight razor too but money is bait tight at the moment.
Welcome to the cozy confines of The Shave Den. Find a comfortable leather recliner and set a spell. BTW, please tell us what you instrument(s) you play and the types of music you play and enjoy!
Welcome to TSD! Don't feel bad about the size of your collection, you have some mighty fine stuff. I also love a good fedora, though I only have a few and only one of any real quality.
:signs046 to The Shave Den!! Great community here. You've got a great setup, and can't wait to hear your opinion on Williams, one of my favorite soaps. Hmm, might have set that mug out for tomorrow now.
Welcome to TSD. I didn't see any expectation that I should move on to a str8. A regular DE with an occasional SE or injector suits me just fine. Do whatever works well for you.
Welcome to the Den! I'm slowly learning to use a straight razor, I don't know if I'll ever be that great with them, but they sure are pretty. I'm a flat cap or pork pie kinda guy myself.
