Has anyone used one of Maggard's synths? Looks to be Plisson style, but I know those can sometimes be super floppy.

I'm restoring a brush as a thank you for a friend and I'm going back and forth between a synth and a silver tip. Here's the handle in question:

I don't know that he uses a brush right now, but he does use a safety razor. I was going to give him a razor too, and the price of the Maggard synth would allow me to get some soap too. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I have a 22mm synthetic Maggard knot that I put into one of my handles. It works really well, just don't have it too wet when using it. It produces good lather with the soaps I use.

The Maggard synths are fine knots. They are Plisson style. I do not think you will find it floppy at all.

I have a Maggard's synthetic in my JR #130. Not at all floppy. Almost as soft as an APShaveCo Tuxedo.

Ive owned a couple of artisan brushes that use Maggard knots and theyre pretty good. I find them to be a little on the stiff side, not floppy at all.

I have a Maggard synthetic and it's as far from floppy as a knot can get. I find it stiff to the point of being uncomfortable so I no longer use it, although I do love the handles on their brushes.

Not floppy. I have used about ten in various handles. They look great and perform great.

I re-knot a lot of my brushes with Maggard's knots and really enjoy them. They're also great for travel!

Old brush, so it probably takes a smaller knot right? Maggard has been out of the 24mm synth knots for a while. I just pulled the trigger on a Cashmere and a Tuxedo for my first two transplants. If you're worried about the synth being too floppy, I think the black knots are supposed to have more backbone (and would also look good with the cream handle).

In smaller sizes, you can get Ubersoft II knots from Envy Shave down to 18. I personally prefer that knot to the Plissoft style. The fan shape makes the splay feel a bit more natural to me. I rank it between the Tuxedo and the Maggard, of course YMMV.

I put a 24mm Maggard's synth in an old Czech handle, and it felt like I was using a piece of foam rubber.

I've bored out handles to take 22 or 24 mm knots. I'm ordering some black Maggard's knots and I'm waiting for a Tuxedo. By the way did I say I really like re-knotting vintage brushes? :bounce015: Though I still haven't seen a reason to go up to the 30mm, but that's just me.

I've used 22mm and 24mm Maggard knots in my vintage re-knots. They are excellent brushes. Both are very soft and work well with just about any soap, croap, or cream; at least, I haven't found any that won't lather well with a Maggard brush, unless they don't lather well with any brush.

Maggard 24mm in a Frank's Shaving handle; just a great brush for pie face, period.
