Maggard V2 Open Comb-Big Improvement

I broke down and ordered one of the new Maggard V2 Open Comb razors to compare with the two V1’s I PIF’d. I just had my first shave with it. It is hefty, much heavier than my Gillette NEW SC. The MR1 handle is brushed stainless and the head is polished zinc alloy. I loaded a new Gillette Platinum in it. The blade alignment is immediate and perfect. I got a very good, close, smooth shave. It shaves much closer than the V1, which was by most standards, was too mild. This will be my new travel razor.

 

I just received one in the mail last week along with a Maggard synthetic brush ... i must say they both perform way beyond their selling price. I paired my v2OC with the MR5 handle and it provided a wonderful shave with no irritation. The Maggard synthetic 24mm brush is one of my favorites, i find myself reaching for it more often than my badger and boar brushes

Hello guys I have a question about my Maggard OC v2, maybe you guys can clarify this for me. The blade on mine doesn't have any noticeable blade gap, the only gap is between the teeth and the blade looks like it sits on top of the teeth. I know I could shim it but rather not. Can someone that has this head post a close up picture to compare it to mine. Here are two picture of the one I have. Thanks.

I gave it a go tonight and all I can say is wow excellent 3 pass shave. It surprised me also!!

I might have to invest in the V2OC... I have the closed comb version of the V2 and like it, but I have yet to try an OC! This might be the one!

 

I've read so many good reviews on it that I just ordered it. I have become a real OC fan but I was already ordering the MR5 handle anyway.

 

Great looking razor, thanks for the info. I wanted a V1, but heard they were extremely mild. Now the V2 is on my list.

 

Would this be a good first razor or should I look for a closed comb?

 

I would go to Maggards and buy both heads then pair it with a handle you like and your golden.

 

That's my exact set up ... the Maggard V2OC on the MR5 handle, it is an excellent combo. Oh yeah btw, evahs should be there today
