    Tried this soap... totally underwhelmed!
    Slickness and cushion were absent!

    Any thoughts welcome!

    I love my two tubs of MdC. I'm curious to know your favorite soaps. Mine are Nuavia, T+S, B&M, MdC, Phoenix & Beau, Sudsy Soapery and, last but not least, Eufros.

    1. Curious to know what shave soap is your standard by which all soaps are evaluated?
    2. Most complaints regarding MdC are usually the following: the price, the scent and the dryness some get post-shave. Performance (glide, slickness, cushion) is one of the uniformly agreed-upon characteristics of this particular soap.
    3. Plenty of other good soaps out there to try!

    MdC is an excellent soap, imo, but it is not good value. Other soaps out there as good for a lot less money.

    Thx for responding! My favorites now are Soap Commander, PAA, MEF? CRSW, Stirling.
    Hmmm... maybe I did not load the brush sufficiently? It sure lathered fast I'll give it that much!

    Kevni, your list is spot one. Since the soap is so easy to lather, I feel many people to not take the time to properly hydrate the soap

    I find just the opposite to be true. With most artisan soaps you are buying a softer soap with a higher water content. This is not the case with MdC. MdC does have a high cost up front but last a very long time. On a per shave basis I have found MdC to be one of my most economical soaps.

    Just out of curiosity, how many times have you used it?

    Cant say I blame him if one is able to score a deal on a used jar of MdC. The stuff does last forever. ;)

    Of those I could interpret, that's a good list of quality soaps!

    I was just joking. I already have one, and they just last forever. This is why I don't think they are very expensive in the long run. Sure, there is a large upfront cost, but I have seen multiple people analyze the cost per shave, and it is down there.

    PAA= Phoenix artisan accoutrements
    MWF= Mitchell's wool fat (he accidentally put "MEF" originally)
    CRSW= cold river soap works

    All very nice, but I would add b&m and MLSW
    B&M= Barrister and Mann
    MLSW= Mickey Lee Soap works

    Perhaps I did not hydrate it enough? Any tips / advice on technique?

    Even though it starts to lather almost immediately I continue to load for about 15 to 20 seconds making sure I have enough soap in the brush. Then I begin face lathering. I add water several times to make sure I have it well hydrated and as slick as possible.

    And I take it you're happy with the soap? Is it in your top ranking? Thx

    @bleddybear
    MdC fougere is a staple in my den. It it easily one of the top fougeres on the market, if not the very best available. Out of the numerous soaps I have used, it is one of the easiest to lather and has some of the best cushion out there. It is insanely slick and the post-shave feel is great for me too.
    The one caveat, as I eluded to earlier, is the entry price of approx 70 bucks. I have seen multiple "per shave cost analysis," however, and it is on par with Palmolive or arko. I have done a similar analysis, and I can easily get a 3-pass shave on less than 1/4 of a gram. On a 200g container, that means I could shave 7 days a week for around 2 1/2 years straight.
