I was perusing the Maggards website to help me decide on what knot to get for my recently purchased WWBW handle. On the homepage they have MDC listed as a new product. It's out of my price point but I figured I'd let y'all know, in case you didn't know already.
Own the Fougère and the Original. Would be interested in the Rose, but $80.00 for a tub of Rose Soap?...No Can Do. That's almost three new sets of Noble Otter.
That's interesting. Martin De Candre is now available at topofthechain.ca in Canada. $89 Canadian. On today's exchange rate that is $67 USD, with free shipping I believe.
This was $55. When I'm making good money, which definitely is not always the case }8^));, I'd buy it...wouldn't think twice...I love to spoil myself and my family, when possible. Floris#89 Shaving Soap...Somethings are priceless...a great soap, razor, cologne, etc. We are lucky Arko & Williams are so inexpensive...I'd pay $10 for an Arko Stick if we had to. Luckily we don't! Whoa... $250 for a razor that will last me years... can do. $70 for a tub of soap that will run out.... nada.
I own a jar of Fougere too. Like so many other things, I'm glad I did it once but I won't do it again.
I am not necessarily a huge fan of MDC, but I do own a jar of the original. I know the price is high, but if you haven't tried it, you honestly don't know how long that jar will last. I have had mine for 4 years now, and you wouldn't hardly know it's been touched. Of course, I don't use it every day, but it is easily the longest lasting soap I have. My guess is the cost per use is actually very low. Once again, it is. It my favorite soap, but sometimes the cost per use should be considered.
I would never call MdC “truly exceptional”. Very good is as complimentary as I can go. There are better soaps for FAR less. If you must try it, try to find a used jar.
