I have a Sally's Beauty Supplies store near me. There they sell a pretty big bottle of Bay Rum aftershave from "Master" or "Master's". Anyone ever try it before? How does it compare to Pinaud VI BR? I might pick up a bottle during lunch at work today.

It's not bad stuff. Smells like plain bay oil. Nothing else added and it's at least a little moisturizing.

I have a bottle and prefer it to the VI Bay Rum. It's scent is very non-descript, but I find it very soothing with minimal burn. The Pinaud VI BR burns like hell fire on my skin, and makes me smell too much like a Christmas Cookie. The only bay rum I like better than Master's is not cheap: Royall Bay Rhum, which has more cloves in it than the Masters, and burns more than Master's, but not as much as the Pinaud VI BR. Booster's also makes a bay rum that has a very plain scent that does not last very long.

I prefer Master's Bay Rum over Pinaud Virgin Island. As stated above, it doesn't burn as bad. It also appears to be somewhat thicker and the scent lasts longer. Master's used to contain glycerin which I thought was great but it appears it is no longer an ingredient so I add it myself. If you like Bay Rum I can almost guarantee you'll like Masters.

I always keep a bottle of Master's in the drawer at work. It's a nice, non-offensive, single note Bay Rum. At $10-11 for a (Huge) bottle, it's a steal. I also occasionally use it as a body splash.

I like Masters also. It's got low alcohol, so no alcohol burn, and a simple bay rum scent. VIBR has what I consider to be a strong clove scent.

I haven't tried masters but from my experience comparing other bay rums to Clubman VI you'd have to work to step down from that stuff.

And another one to add to the list. Does it ever stop?

Speaking of lists, try some superior 70 bay rum. You can get it from Walgreens in the "ethnic" aisle. I added menthol crystals to it and liked it a lot. It was pleasant smelling. But I have to say, I love the Clubman VIBR. I'm on my second bottle of it. And of course, I added menthol crystals. Nothing better than a freezing cold splash of after shave after a great shave.
I'm sure Jeff (crackstar) would agree.

I can't remember what they call it, but some people make a mixture of Superior 70, Masters and VIBR (1/3 each).

Both products very nice but very different IMO. PVIBR is strong with alcohol, clove and cinnamon. Scent is long lasting on me. Masters tends to be sticky if to much is applied and scent does not last very long. Masters is mostly a BR aroma. When the 2 are mixed together 50/50 they are truly wonderful.

Stephan's Bay Rum is what my barber uses and it's quite nice. Not as potent as VI though.

Master's is a subtle bay rum scent that I use regularly. It's not too overpowering. I do though add 1 teaspoon menthol crystals to a bottle to give it the chill i desire.

I like Masters but use it mainly in the winter for its moisturizing benefit. That very benefit becomes a negative in the summer as I find it can get sticky on hot days. I have a travel bottles with various blends of Masters, Stephans, VI, Dominica and Superior 70. Every combination is nice in its own way.

It's called "Bootleggers BayRum" and the actual mix is pretty optional, what ever you like the most is the mix...:) I like VIBR,Stevens or Gabels and Superior70....

Masters is actually my least favorite, except for the price and convenience of being able to get it locally...
My favorites so far have been Clubman VI,Stevens and Gabels.....:)

I have gone through at least a dozen BR brands in the last 5 yrs, and the only ones I could enjoy using every day are Dominica, Stephans, and Superior 70. The others are OK now and then, but seem to get less interesting if used too often.
