Upon first sniff (out of the bottle), I thought my nose hairs got singed. This stuff has a VERY potent scent. From what I understand, the "Challenge" is an aftershave discontinued by Master a while back, and recently re-introduced. So its possible, this is just "fresh" stock....but I don't think so. This is one of very few aftershaves I have that I can still smell after 5 PM (application at 7:30 AM). Ok, that's the easy stuff. >>> The hard part is describing the scent. It is definitely "sporty". Not like Aqua Velva Sport, not like a gillette-inspired "sport-scent"......yet still "sporty" in its own regard. Sporty in a slap you across the face -WAKE UP- way. It has grapefruit-like top notes, though I would not describe this as a grapefruit fragrance. Other notes my nose detects are lilac, woods (oak moss?), and a very, very dark patchouli/earthy undertone....although these notes are very subdued. Definitely barbershop-like but with a real zing. Due to the strength of this one, I always do a cold water splash after it has settled for 20-30 seconds to mellow out the finish.
Interesting Tried this recently out of curiosity. Was not bad at all. I am no fragrance guru, but it seemed to be a cross between a musk and a bay rum, plus some other trace notes I can not begin to define. It smelled stronger in the bottle than it does on my face, and it largely faded in an hour so it was not overpowering at all. I will keep this one around for variety's sake.
