Welcome to the “Mayhem” edition of the 30DC thread.

For many of you, this is the most exciting month of the year, because you get the opportunity to shave with and show off your unique, shaving contraptions. Personally, I find running an open blade, ridiculously keen piece of steel in the proximity of my jugular vein as close to “mayhem” as I ever wish to come…but, to our 21st century Evel Knievels, this author says:

For the rest of us mere-mortals, let’s talk about the goals of this thread and for those, who may be joining us for the first time, this information will serve to enlighten you as to the intent of this thread.

We are a merry band of shavers,
    wemccwm.jpg
who are constantly searching for ways to improve our technique---and along the way, help the newbies really enjoy their shaves as well.

The best and most time-tested manner in which to do so, is to commit to the “30 Day Rule”

1 brush, 1 soap, 1 brand of blades, 1 razor, 30 Days. The rule is really that simple. It seems boring, but this is probably the most straightforward way to learn for a brand-new shaver. This exercise eliminates variables and will likely solve any problem you may have, with a strict scientific approach.

If this strict rule isn’t your ballywick, then there is this option: the “30 Day Focus” This is a less rigorous exercise, designed for exploration and comparison of gear and technique. This is the most common exercise on the thread. Generally, the elements are rotated one by one to allow clear observation. Examples of focus areas include brush types, blades, soaps, razor variants, etc.

Naturally, these are just suggestions, but there are a few RULES, that must be observed and followed:

    1. New Members always welcome. Start anytime.
    2. Old Members always welcome.

    3. Respect everyone.
    4. Refrain from political conversation.**

** This includes, but is not limited to: Covid-19, treatments and/or advice.
Please keep these discussions off of this thread and indeed, off of TSD.

So, let's all have a wonderful month of great shaves. Keep your
    contributions coming.

I am not one for mayhem, rather, I really like clean and comfortable shaves. With that said, I believe I will drive the Windsor again and use a synthetic brush from @Enrico , but will try out some soaps I took from the traveling mystery box. Haven't decided which to start with just yet. It's Saturday, I just returned from a nice round of disc golf and had some breakfast. I'll post something in a bit.

Hi Everyone! It's a new month! My main focus this month is using my Mad Max and Artie when he arrives this month. I will have 8 shaves with Max and hopefully at least 5 with Artie. Obviously, they will be interspersed with my shavettes, my Mühle R 102 and whatever else suits me. Today is a no shave say to start the month. Have a great day guys!

Decided to go with the TOBS shaving cream. Made a fantastic dense lather that provided plenty of cushion and glide. Today was shave 7 on the Astra blade and I had to work just a little to get a good shave but in the end, 2 passes and touch up on the jawline resulted in a DFS with one mascne weeper.

Welcome to the month of May. It definitely has to be better than the past month, on a personal level.

I have not yet decided which direction the focus for the month will be. I do know there will be a few travel shaves along the way. A few possibilities:
    1. Change the 1508.5 to 3017.5
    2. Set up for theme weeks, ie Italian sShave Soap Week
    3. Straight Razor Artisan/Company Shave Week: ie Wade and Butcher
    4. Mug Soap Month: Shave with any soap in a mug.

Today’s shave was fantastic. The TI delivered a smooth and comfortable shave without incident. SWMBO loves the combination of the Cella/Chella Cool. Therefore the day is starting out positively. Now off to my son’s soccer game and then yard work. Have a great day gentlemen.

  11. Been a while since I've been in a 30 day thread!

I'm looking to use my SR at the weekends as I'm trying to improve!

Daily shaving will be with my R41. I'm going to try different blades, refine my angle and see if I can improve my lather.

Today's shave was my Brix 13/16 SR, Taylor's Sandalwood and Yaqi brush. DFS, some razor burn, but happy for a first time.

Welcome to the 30 DC thread Simon. There are a few of us that are regular or semi regular straight shavers. Feel free to ask for advice. You will find this slice of TSD very helpful.
