Hi I have recently converted a gent that I work with that old style shaving is the best so he went and got himself a mekur? 34c. He loves it but he is quite a big chap and has large paws, his only comment was that the handle is short. So I'm wondering can you get a longer handle or are any handles inter changeable?? Thanks in advance.
    Nathan.

As far as I know, you can't change handles. The 34C is a 2-piece razor; unscrew using the knob at the base of the handle and only the top half of the head comes off. The 38C is the long handle brother to the 34C.

Short of custom modification, you cant change the handles out. I know that Cooncat Bob from BRW used to modify them before he passed. I am not aware of any current people offering the service, but I haven't kept up on things either.

Before I started wet-shaving—not so very long ago—I did a little research into finding a razor whose size would feel comfortable in my big mitts. My father's old speed shaver was downright 'tiny' for me, and so I opted for the Merkur 38c barber pole model linked to above. Switching between the Merkur and the FatBoy, I can get a comfortable grip while shaving. Nathan, your friend will probably appreciate having a longer handle than his current razor.

Two larger razors for 'big mitted' shavers. FatBoy & 38c

The 38C is a beauty, great pic! On that one how does the head come off...like the 34C or twist off on top of the handle like the 23C?

Yes, a simple 2-piece assembly with a bottom twist knob to unscrew the threaded top shield, insert blade and shield, re-twist to tighten. Though not as 'retro-cool' as the TTOs, I still prefer the 2-piece over some of the 3-piece assemblies evident in the much older Gillette models.

Thanks for the info. I just picked up a 34C and gave it a good cleaning. These are easy to take apart and I like the two piece build as well. Shaved with it a short while ago it's a terrific tool! I now have a 38C on my list of must-haves.
