    hey all,

I just recieved my Merkur 37c in the mail yesterday from JR Reyes and gave it a first shave today. Here's my attempt at a review!

    PRE: Hot Shower
SOAP: RazoRock for Fine American Blend
    BRUSH: Liojuny 26mm Silverip "Alaska"
    RAZOR: Merkur 37c
    BLADE: Gillette Silver-Blue
POST: CVS Witch Hazel, Fine American Blend AS

The RR American Blend soap performed as all Joe's soaps do: super thick and slick lather. The razor was surprising. Everything I had read about the 37c made me think it was super aggressive and could be scary, but that was not my experience at all.

The first pass was a WTG pass with 3 days of growth. There was absolutely zero tugging, pulling or skipping. Super smooth, gave me a DFS after the first pass!

I went for a second, XTG pass and continued to be impressed. The smoothness continued, no irritation at all.
There were a couple spots with a little stubble left, so I did a half pass with some buffing to finish off my BBS shave!

The 37c, at least on first impressions, will be a permanent addition to my rotation. It didn't seem as "efficient" as say, my open comb, but it was also my first time using a slant and I know there is a bit of a learning curve for all new razors. I can't wait for my second use!

With the right blade, the right soap and, most importantly, the right face, those slants are tough to beat! :happy088:

After almost 5 months, the 37c is still my go-to. Now that OCtober is nearing an end, I'm finally starting to get shaves with my NEW LC that rival the slant, but I wouldn't say that they're as good yet. I may have to pick up a 39c at some point for comparison. I'm a head shaver, and I do think the longer handle helps me use less pressure throughout the shave.

Do the 37 and 39c torque the blade at all or is it the head angle that is slanted or both?

    Just the blade torsion.

:signs011: The base & top cap are perpendicular to the stem (handle) but the angled top cap torques down on the blade when the top is tightened, creating the slanted blade edge.
There is no edge movement or play as the compression from the top cap keeps enough torque on the blade for rigidity.

I had an unsuccessful experience with my 37C, however I'm really glad to hear your experience has been so positive at least so far. :happy088:

Thanks for the review and feedback Joel. It sounds like you have plenty of great shaves left in that slant. Enjoy.

Congrats, Joel, and thanks for the review. The 37c loaded with a Feather blade also gives me a great shave with no irritation. It is a fantastic razor!

I love my 37C. I found it to be a great razor that required 0 change in technique. A pleasant surprise.
