Dear friends, I'd like to know if any of you have encountered the same situation with the progress as I have. Since I got the progress a couple of years ago I never managed to get an acceptable shave no matter the setting and the differentr blades I tried. Today I reasized that the blade does not align automatically and I did it manually. After this it gave me a perfect BBs on the highest setting.
Yes every time, I make sure it's aligned properly. That's why I wasn't paying any attention to the blade alignmsnt as I assumed if the cap is on the right side, then the blade would also be aligned by definition.
I've used a progress for 5 years and it's my favourite razor (alongside Rockwell 6S). To get it to align without fuss is when you're turning the knob to tighten the head down, just put your thumb against the head/topcap to resist it in direction to which you're turning. The misalignment occurs right at the end when the top cap turns very slightly beyond the safety bar, which the above technique prevents... Therefore, perfect alignment everytime. I really hope that made sense and you can replicate it.
Thank you, nav for the sound advise. This works on the lower settings, but as I like it to be efficient, I dial it up and there the cap moves from side to side. I think the retaining spring has weakened evn though I keep it relaxed.
I absolutely love my Progress. A DFS/BBS every time. That being said, the bottom came out of the handle and it won't go back in.
Pay no attention to Mr. Get Off My Lawn. Same design being produced since 1955 (a longer run than the Gillette Tech), obviously there's something right about it (and the Variant offshoot). Sold my Gillettes and kept the Merkur. It may not have a brass head but it's a superior shaver for a lot of folks. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Thanks. I assume the "compression ring" is the metal part that has the gap in it? Doesn't look 'compressable'. Herm
That's the one. It will give slightly if you squeeze it near the gap. Just enough to fit back into the handle - where it expands again and keeps the bottom from falling out on its own. Let me go and find you a video...
Found one. Watch from 1:25 or thereabouts... You can see the guy squeeze the compression ring just before pushing the bottom back in. It's quite simple and quick - easy to miss...
