So my wife does NOT shave her legs...she waxes them but today, we had a wedding to go to so she had no choice. It's not that she doesn't like doing it, it's just that the steel irritates her skin. So I suggested we use my new brush (I'm new to wet shaving too), cream and her standard 5 blade gillette razor. I made the lather and did what I could to apply it to her leg. So here's my question for the ladies...how to I apply the lather? I was going in a circular motion with the brush and then would finish with longer strokes (like painting trim). She said she didn't feel any exfoliating sensations and was very skeptical of the whole process - probably because I'd never done this before and probably not doing it right. I figured using my brush was at LEAST as good using her hands to apply the lather. I searched online about shaving legs and some people swear by hair conditioner... :| I would think that would clog up the razor no?
I do circles, then paint. Just like you did. Exfoliating comes from the razor not the brush. She sure the steel irritates her skin? It's more likely the canned goo irritating her. I've never used conditioner so can't answer that. Sorry.
Really? How does the razor exfoliate the skin? I thought the hairs on the brush (assuming they were of the firmer type and not the silver tip variety) removed some dead skin.
The blade is a sharp edge, running over your skin. It's not just removing hair. It's also removing dead skin; exfoliating. The brush may exfoliate a little, but not as much as the blade does.
What kinda brush you got? A boar will feel stiffer and may be better, if she likes that feeling ,then a badger. Remind her that nothing beats practice.. you may have to do that often for her to get it right... then get her a real razor... Fuzzy
Didn't think to add anything about the razor before. 5 blades is rarely a necessity for a woman's leg hairs or underarms. In fact, it is almost certainly going to cause razor burn (aka irritation). Pick her up some single blade disposables at least. Some women do have thicker leg hair, but even then 5 blades isn't better than 1.
I agree with the above. My former multiblade cartridge razor caused me irritation that I never really get anymore with my DE. Definitely go with a different razor. If you want extra exfoliation you should buy an exfoliating soap or scrub and not bother with a different brush. I like Tree Hut Body Scrub in Coconut Lime. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=191944&catid=48050
Lady legs :shocked031Interesting since my wife used a brush and lather for the first time this morning and I found that it took a lot more lather than my face which makes sense. What do your think it takes; two or three times as much lather and on the thick end? Also, I have been leaving the extra lather of sandlewood and lavendar for her to wash her face in the morning.
OK so I have a few questions. My wife is interested in using a brush and soap and a DE for her legs. I have posted before about space in our small bathroom being a problem for her. So anyway last night we were sitting around and she started complaining about today being her leg shaving day and I told her she should just try using my brush and soap and one of my razors. Well one thing led to another and the next thing I knew I was shaving her legs using a small tub of water. I used some VDH soap and my best badger brush and my 48/50 SS with a new Astra blade. She loved it - said it was the most pampered she has ever felt. It was not to bad for me - I was scared I was going to nick her but I made it through with out a single nick. The one thing that I kept running into was the lather kept drying out on me. Was I trying to do to much? Should I have just done smaller areas at a time? After the shave I was not sure what to put on as an AS so I just used some plain witch hazel. I think I got her hooked on the idea of wetshaving - only problem I think I also got her hooked on me doing the shaving. So other questions would be what soap is good for the legs and what is good to put on after the shave?
Sorry I can't offer up much in the way of suggestions for the soap drying out... I do know that my daughter really likes to use my TOBS Avocado as it was recommended by JoAnna, and when my wife (who is always running late) has turned to using KMF since it can be used brushless. They also both really like to use and praise JoAnna's A/S milk, especially the Chinatown Type.
My wife let me shave her legs once when I wanted to test a straight I had just sharpened. I used her shaving cream on one leg and TOBS Avocado on the other. She liked the feel of the TOBS and she stated that she liked the smell(which she said smell like lavender) and that I could shave her legs any time I wanted. I used my brush and leg lathered.:happy102(circular and paintbrush style motions)
I haven't been using a brush. I've been directly applying a shave soap to my leg and using a little bit of water just smearing the soap over the areas I want to shave. Then I shave away! The soap I'm using seems to be working GREAT and I have no irritation...but it doesn't make a lot of lather; at least no huge frothy-ness. I used to get razor burn and little bumps all the time. So far after just a couple weeks of shaving with my DE things have gotten MUCH better.
Thanks for the recommendation of the TOBS avocado, I think I remember JoAnne telling me the have her try that. I passed that info to the wife and she keeps coming back saying she want the lavender TOBS. I told her to check out some of he TSD soaps and figure it out and we will get what she decides on. SO now I have more questions. I have in fact been tasked to shave her legs twice a week. I know it may sound strange but she soaks and scrubs my feet and clips my toenails, which is gross in my opinion, but she likes to do it after I have had a tough day at work, so I figure the least I can do is shave her legs. At least until we move next month to a place that has a bigger shower - I hope! OK so how many passes does it take for a normal shave of the legs? (no this question is not really for Bill - but any of the ladies out that that would like to help a guy out) If you do more than one pass do you do one up and one down?
The Taylors Lavender has a nice scent, but the Avocado provides extra moisturizing. Has she tried it yet? I don't think Bill shaves his legs. :think002 :happy102 For me, it is one pass, starting at the ankle and going up. However, I would suggest asking your wife how she shaves her legs. Just like guys, us gals don't all shave the same. And one last thought. Perhaps instead of soaps for your wife, the Wheat cream may be more to her liking. Maybe it's just me, but I find my legs need a bit more moisturizing, and the Wheat gives me that.
Thanks JoAnne! No she has not tried any other soaps besides my new TSD Lime SC. She likes it but wants some other soaps to try. She says she only does one pass as well but she says that now that she is into this wet shaving thing she thinks she may have to shave them legs more often. We will see I guess.
