    No takers?

    I have 2 types

The top ones are old, when I started wet shaving a year ago my wife dug these out of her sewing basket. They belonged her Mum and came from her sewing basket. She is long deceased many years ago, so no idea how old they are.

So I took a chance and used one this morning.
Derby soap, Gillette Tech, 24 hrs beard. Usual 3 passes.
Seemed fine. Nothing special, but it was fine.

Will try the one in the bottom of the pic next time. Not sure where I got those though.

I thought about purchasing some a while back due to enjoying a Minora razor but thought they were a bit pricey. I can gert Astra and Permasharps far cheaper. I found Lords to be a great value and very enjoyable.

    :)

Interesting, thanks Gary. It seems your memory is pretty sharp. The one on the top of my pic comes from South Africa originally, elsewhere I read these were made for that market (and others) in the Russia.

Link here feel free to delete if not allowed to cross reference other fora.

2nd day with the Gillette Minora, Gillette Tech razor, seemed a bit smoother today...

no complaints, would I buy more? if the price is right...

I’ve used two ten packs of these Minoras in the last year or so. I’m guessing that the different packagings were meant for different markets.

My stubble is very tough on double edge blades. I put whisker sized divots in DE blades. That said, my two main observations of Minoras are 1, they are very thin and very flexible. Much more so than any other blade I’ve used. 2, they are absolutely wonderful for the first shave; smooth, sharp and comfortable. There isn’t a blade I’ve tried that’s any better than a Minora on its first shave.

However, I only get that one outstanding shave from each Minora. The second time out is markedly different. If I do use one for a second shave it only works well in a modern stainless razor that clamps the blade well and fully covers the tabs. Otherwise there’s just too much chatter ATG. As a result, I don’t use a Minora a second time in an old Gillette. They’re ok enough in my Lupo DLC or GC .76, but still not as good as the first shave.

The next time a Minora comes up in the rotation I’ll try it with my new EJ 3one6 which doesn’t completely cover the blade’s tabs. It’ll be interesting to say the least, as the Jagger’s geometry doesn’t look like it will provide enough support for the thin little wafer of stainless steel. JMO, but I wouldn’t attempt a third shave with a Minora in any razor.

I wish I had access to a micrometer. (is that the right word?)
