They shouldn’t change their formula of MWF in the first place, that’s what happens when people turn away from the famous MWF, lucky me and glad to stock up (20+) with heaps of the original MWF tallow version early before the new formula came out.
I’ve got about four years worth of Mitchell’s bath soap stashed away. I guess I’ll fill in and rotate with Green Mountain Soap, but frankly, it doesn’t smell nearly as good as Mitchell’s. As for the tallow shave soap, I have a new puck in a mug with only a dozen or so shaves on it, and about ten pucks of mwf and kent stashed away in deep storage.
I was late to the game with MWF. My wife gave me a tallow puck and bowl last Christmas, but it is still unopened, as I had some other soaps I was working through. Now I’m not sure I want to open it.
Sad news. I really liked their shave soaps, although I haven’t tried them since the new formula. Retail in pretty much anything is a tough business.
Jut curious... why not? Buy low, sell high? An investment? An heirloom to pass down? Really? Nic-nak on a shelf? It was given to you to use, so use it.
No to all. Don’t like nic-nacs, my son and son in law both sport permanent beards, so passing down is out. Investment? Nah. Just kind of the idea of having something no longer available. Got a couple pucks of Williams, doubt I use them either.
I can relate to this. I have a limited edition hand painted ceramic jar with 200 grams of La Savonnière du Moulin sans parfum that I will never use. And I may never get around to opening my backup of vintage Williams either. I’ll let my grandson figure it out.
The reformulated shave soaps are still available here and there. The remaining bath soaps are expensive stateside. I have some coming in from UK.
As of yesterday Amazon US still had the Kent SB2 soaps available with the latest MWF ( non tallow ) formulation for $8. If anyone is interested. I picked a few up, and shaved with one of them and it wasn't bad. It had the MWF scent pretty locked in, and for a non tallow soap the lather was not bad at all.
Oh no. Anyways... I'm rather curious to see what Kent ends up doing with their shave soap now that MWF will be no more. As for those saying that people abandoned MWF due to the shaving soap reformulation fiasco, I gotta call BS on that one. Yes, it made waves on the shaving forums, but that represents only a tiny fraction of the wet shaving market. The vast majority of people who buy MWF shaving soap most likely didn't notice the reformulation or care that it was reformulated. MWF hasn't actually made soap "in-house" for decades. Likely it's their manufacturer that is shutting down due to draconian EU cosmetic restrictions, and they got caught up in the fallout; or they are aging out and wished to retire. From what I gathered, the two sons are running the day to day operations and aren't as passionate about the brand as their father (now deceased) or their mother (very elderly, possibly deceased). Frankly, their loyal customer base was also aging out and dying. Williams had the same issue and met the same fate. I know Connought was planning on making a MWF tallow shaving soap duplicate. Perhaps this will give that project some added incentive. It's not a bad soap, and if one likes the scent, it actually projects better (smells stronger) in the non-tallow formula. It's not the sublime masterpiece the tallow formula was, but it's not a bad soap.
I couldn’t help myself. I’d been avoiding buying the MWF ceramic dish but could no longer ignore it. Incoming…
How reliable is the information? That Connought was planning on making a MWF tallow shaving soap duplicate. Are they're going to do it? in 2025?
