Does anyone remember this from Mountain Dew's past? What period do you think it's from? No extreme dudes and dudettes doing extreme things, just a Hillbilly and the phrase,

    "Mountain Dew
    It'll tickle yore innards"

Not a bad find buried in mud at the bottom of a river.

That is awesome! I know nothing about them, but I found a couple links

"it touted its hillbilly roots, billing itself as the moonshine of the soft drink industry"

In 1965, Pepsi announces the “Yahoo Mountain Dew…It’ll tickle your innards” campaign. The Mountain Dew bottle is redesigned, Willy the hillbilly (named after Willy Mcfalls) is redesigned and names are no longer allowed on the bottles. Up until this point about 174 different named bottles had been produced. However, many named bottles were still produced after 1965. Refer to the complete history for details. "

Looks like there were multiple versions of the hillbilly bottle/can I would imagine yours pre-dates these:

Sorry, I get carried away with things like this. I collect Coca-Cola bottles.

Edit: Does it have a town and a number on the bottom of the bottle?

Thanks for all the help Rodd! Wow, neat stuff.

It has no town embossed on the bottom of the bottle. It does say "Not to be refilled" and some numbers and letters that appear to be a manufacturing code of some kind. It's the 10oz size also.

They didn't sell Mountain Dew at the stores in my hometown when I was a kid, at least the ones I went to. The first time I saw it, must have been '69 or '70 in a country store on a camping trip... The bottle had a picture of one hillbilly shouting down the mountain at another. The first hillbilly said "Ya-hoo!" and the second hillbilly answered with "Mountain Dew!"

The timelines match up well. They built Clark Canyon dam on the Beaverhead River where I found the bottle in 1964 which captured the spring time floods that would have eventually ground the bottle back into sand. So my best guess is this bottle sat in the mud for over 40 years without moving around too much, there are few abrasions to the glass. That's pretty cool, it's probably older that I am!

I found a Mug root beer bottle in a different stream that appears to be even older! The only markings on it are the word "MUG" on two sides.

Is moving water the best place to dispose of this stuff? I go barefoot often in the summer when fishing, mud between the toes and all. :D

I decided that from now on when I go fishing in a boat I am dragging a heavy magnet behind the boat. I can't imagine how many cool things I could find. I originally had the idea to get lures that people have lost one day when I happened to snag 3 lures while bass fishing.

If you have a Big Lots store in your area, check there. They often have glass bottle 4-packs for 1.99.

That is a nice find. They look nicer than the cans of today.

    +1

I try to avoid soft drinks altogether but Mountain Dew especially. This is an exaggeration but it feels like my teeth is decaying with every sip.

Frostie can also be found at your local BevMo. Tons of other old brands also.
