Has anyone tried using one of those coffee mug warmers for your shave bowl? Something to keep the lather nice and warm?
That may work. I have one that's been sitting in a closet for 10 years. I may have to give it a shot. Thanks for the idea.
Sounds like a good idea and only $11.95 with free shipping. My only concern is the warmer is made for coffee and not shave cream. Will anything burn??
They can be too hot. Try to get one with dual temp switch on them. If it get's too warm it will dry out your lather
I just experimented with an idea that might work even better then a mug warmer. I took my ceramic shave bowl and made lather in it as usual. Took a small metal pot and filled it with hot bathroom tab water. Put the bowl into the pot and waited 5 minutes. I simulated 3 passes and all the lather stayed nice and warm actually more to the hot side. I created a hot water bath for the bowl and lather. Almost like a scuttle.
I've used a mug warmer for the last 3-4 years and had NO problems with it whatsoever. I love it and if mine died today I'd be out hunting another one immediately. Matter of fact I've been looking for them at Wally World, Target, etc so I can pick up one locally just to have as a spare. Mine has no settings or temp controls....just on or off! I generally make three passes (primarily a cream user) and turn it off at the end of the second pass and lather is still nice and toasty. Some worry about ruining brushes with these but I've had NO problems. I've used my ShaveMac and Savile Row silvertips like this on a regular basis and can't tell it's effected my brushes in any way. I've got a Moss Scuttle but I don't use it much thanks to the mug warmer! Warm lather.....one of life's little pleasures!
Good idea. I've seen those on sale at Michael's for ~$6. I might have to pick one up while I'm back in Colorado this weekend.
Mrs. Island Brian got this for me last fall. Its got 2 heat settings (I always use the low setting). The removable inner bowl with a handle makes for easy clean up. Best of all, when the brush hits that warm surface, the lather practically explodes! Pass after pass, I have a consistently warm, lather filled brush. I highly recommend it. P.S. - chocolate and strawberries not included! :happy102
I simply don't like having electrical devices plugged in next to the sink, even with ground fault protector.
I'm with you. I just use my GP scuttle to keep my lather toasty. No plugs, just hot water... strictly old school.
Hi there, yup - that was my first idea, too, since I am an electrical engineering technician. May be I would prefer chemical reactions ... Kind regards Michael!
