this week I just received my new handle and paired it with my relatively new EJ89 head and found my first two shaves to be not close enough for my liking after my typical two pass shave with touch ups. I’m considering the Muhle R41 2013 version head for closer shaves. For reference I’ve been using DE razors for 13 years or so and typically use a Gillette red tip or Merkur 34C and the shaves are mild to okay. With those I get no weepers with daily shaving. I’ll probably order the R41, but would like experiences with the razor expressed here. Thanks.
I have been using the R41 for 2 years now. Go for it can’t go wrong with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I love my Frankenrazor the Muhle R41 v2013 head with iKon bulldog handle are a fantastic combination together and is a MUST have in your den
Go for it! The 2013 R41 is a very nice head. Match it to a handle you like and you should be quite happy with the result.
Agreed. I use the R41 head on a Weber bulldog handle, and it shaves great. If you can find a Muhle head from a European vendor, it will be cheaper than buying in the U.S. I think I got mine for less than $15 a couple of years ago.
For some reason the norm has been to pair a r41 with a bulldog handle. I purchased a used combo from a bst and found the handle to heavy and when I changed the handle to a slightly longer less heavier brass one I got better shaves.
The Rockwell 6C handle provides much better balance than a Bulldog. To SpeedyPC, while I'm not appointing myself the arbiter of such things, I don't think putting a non Muhle handle on a r41 head makes a Frankenrazor, particularly as Muhle sells the head as a separate item. Swap top cap or baseplate and you're in Frankenrazor country. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Here’s my combo Much better for me even the DE89 handle seems good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks to @Primotenore i have a like new R41 head on the way and I’m eagerly awaiting Monday morning’s shave. Thanks for all the replies.
I'm going to shave with a EJDE89 top cap connected to the R41 base plate attach to the iKon bulldog handle is that okay with you @jmudrick
I have/had a love-hate relationship with the Mighty R41, I got rid of it a number of years ago, once my technique improved I figured out that I didn't need a beard slayer. Just wasn't for me, much like the super slayer iKon Tech.
Can anyone compare the aggressiveness of the r41 head to plate 6 on the Rockwell? I've been using plate 6 on Rockwell and wouldn't want anything less aggressive than that. So far I've tried Nacet, gsb, Astra and Gillette platinum. Sent from my LG-H873 using Tapatalk
Thank you. Now I need to try it. My wife says thank you as well.... sarcastically lol Sent from my LG-H873 using Tapatalk
It's always worth experimenting, but I have to say I enjoy the Rockwell much more than the R41. It's much smoother and very efficient. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
