I wanna know if anybody else here listens to music while they shave. When I was new to wetshaving, I couldn't put on tunes, since the sound of whiskers being cut was my "am I shaving at the correct angle?" signal, but as I became more experienced, I started putting on music every morning while I shave. Typically, it's something like Dire Straits or a playlist of Bear McCreary stuff. It's a great way to expand the sensory repertoire of shaving, to include scent, feel, sight, and sound.
Petra, Third Day, White Heart, Stryper, Victory in Heaven Blues Band, Jimmie Bratcher, Degarmo & Key, Andre Crouch...
Its normally too early and I don't want to wake the family, but on weekends and such, its always Zeppelin. I got the entire Japanese box set for my birthday so I have every released and a few unreleased songs so I just select the band in WMP, hit random, and let it play. Occasionally though SWMBO will have on some TOOL or Mushroomhead or Slipknot, even some Norah Jones, and I just roll with it and shave away.
Frank Sinatra....just puts me in a good mood. Sometimes I have to watch myself because I get into the music a little too much and it affects my shave haha
I like peace and solidtude (translate silence) whenever I can get it. Which isn't often in a house full of seven, three of whom are kiddies. No music.
Some days yes, doesn't have to be a part of the ritual, but I enjoy it when it is. Music varies tremendously, from any form of the Blues, Dixieland Jazz, Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, the Crooners, Swing, Big Band, Pop, Classical, really anything and everything but Rap or Hip Hop.
I like classical as it gives the experience a renaissance feel and I tend to take my time with the shave.
Music? Maybe I always shave after showering and I can't hardly stand a shower without the radio on. If I'm not in the mood for whatever the radio has to offer, I might pop a disc in. And my taste in music hits a wide range - so I could have just about anything playin'.
You guys could always play Benny Bell's "Shaving Cream". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M32Qr5D9AUM&feature=related
We used to have a shower radio that stayed on through my whole grooming ritual, basically from the time I walked into the bathroom until the moment I walked out. Took a new job about 8 years ago which altered my work hours such that I'm the only one awake in the house when I'm showering and shaving these days, so I try to keep it quiet. Although I'm a tremendous music fan, I can't say I really miss it. As Shep mentioned above, it's nice to have the peace and solitude. Especially on a workday.
I don't listen to music, but sometimes I listen to podcasts (right now, I'm enjoying Craft Beet Talk) or I'll listen to a nature sounds app to relax.
Mmmm.....Craft Beer...another hobby I wish I had but probably couldn't afford seeing as how my other hobbies take up a majority of the extra funds around here...
I personally enjoy the quiet during shaving. I do like music in the shower before hand but I like the Zen appeal of wet shaving and I need silence. Just me.
I know of quite a few wetshaving brethren who listen to music when they shave but I must confess I never have--may have to give it a go one day.
