I was going to pose in "The Haul", but this is going to be more a question type thread, so I didn't want to detract from that thread. I was perusing my local 8000 sq ft honey hole and came out with several cool items. I'll post pics and the prices I paid for each item. Specifically, I'm looking for help dating several of the items and seeing how well I did on prices. First I found this Safetee shave cabinet and got it, including the full box of FAX blades, the old Khaki soft case, a no date code gold colored Gillette razor, four packs of Don Juan Blades, and a Fuller brush co brush. I would like to have that one restored. Paid $40 for all in the first pics. : Next, I found an adjustable TTO Gillette razor with D4 date code. It appears to be in great shape and everything clicks and works fine. $9 Help me with the name? Frankoma pottery shaving mug $1 Gillette Blue blades still in cellophane $2 Old Spice shaving mug with soap and original plastic cover. $12 Says Early American Old Spice Co, and some other things I forgot. It seems the soap only takes up half of the depth of the mug. Three straights in the next spot of this thread.
Eugene Berninghaus Co SR. Coffin is in excellent shape and says 4/11/44 Good Luck. Not sure if this is referring to the date of mfg? Blade is imprinted with Manganese on one side, Eugene Berninghaus, Cincinnati Ohio. paid $6 C.W. Dahlgren SR. Has a faint German inscription on the blade, but I can't read German that well. Says CW Dahlgren Medalier Chicago 1823. Coffin is in ok shape. $8 Unknown brand SR in a Wade and Butcher Sheffield coffin. Coffin is in poor condition, but it's pretty cool. The blade says YAP, but I just noticed it has Nazi SS markings on it. Other side says CEO. P. Haldy Cedar Rapids, Iowa. $8
Look at the back of the base plate and send me the letter and the number that you see. From that we can find out.
If the Gillette has no date code it is older than 1950. 1950 starts with the code V. The first 3 piece Tech was started around 1938 and the bar guards were coming in about that time. More than likely 1938 - 1941 or 1946 - 1949 but that is about all I can tell since most activity was diverted to the war effort from 1942-1945 which was minimal in ornateness. Jody may be able to give a little more information on this.
Yeah dude, that Old Spice soap is a pretty good find in itself. I'm really digging that frame back str8 too. I'm jealous of the entire haul dude.
Anybody know who I should talk to about dating the frame back and trying to see if it is worth restoring? Also looking for some info on the red one. It appears to have Nazi sig runes (ss) insignia next to the proof mark.
Glen (gssixgun) should be able to guide you or if you sign up at Straight Razor Place you may be able to find advice as well.
