Thank you. It was a lot more work than I thought this little brush would take, but I'm happy with the outcome.
A couple more ... a Hardright Anchorset and a Made Rite 12. Before ... and after ... Polished, re-lettered and re-knotted with a Tuxedo and a Maggard's synthetic. More to come ...
Thank you just having fun. Thank you, I have a green Ever Ready I'll be posting soon at well. The Made Rite was just like my Dad's and the others I saved like sad puppies in need of some loving.
Would you be keeping the handle dark or try going natural? I used India ink so I had many choices of colors. Found it at Hobby Lobby. Dyeing plastic is a whole different ball of wax; I've done in the past. In any case, I like to re-letter brushes I restore (easier than most people think).
Next time I get a wood handle brush and think about doing a color, I might just try the ink thing. Also, another possibility would be to thin out acrylic paint with enough water to make it "ink like". Maybe even dye that's used for Easter eggs mixed with water.
Well I restored a Opal and an Ever Ready 250. The Ever Ready I had sitting around for about 2 years and my interest in it is about gone, but I just received the Opal and realized it is marbled red bakelite (very cool). It's been so long that the Ever Ready before pic is so lousy it barely looks like it. Here they are: Knot removal slight polish ... Completed with Maggard's 22mm synthetic knot ... I really like the Opal, the Ever Ready 250 ... meh. As always ..... More to come ...
These are super sweet! I just have one quiet, how are you guys pulling the old knot from the handle without damage to the handle
