Cremo Cooling Shave Cream Jayaruh #229 Probak Gillette Silver Blue CWR Thayer's Lemon WH Pinaud Clubman This tube of Cremo Cooling Shave Cream was given to me in a trade I made with @CarlfromMO . I did not know what to expect today. The directions said to use hot water, as hot as you can stand it. That doesn't work with a cold water shave. Also, I had heard that this cream does not make lather. So, I had mixed emotions about today's shave. I figured that if I did not like the first pass, I could just change to another soap for the second pass. I skipped the Proraso Pre-Shave today. I started by just wetting my face with cold water. I used a small dollop of Cremo and attempted to face-lather with the Jayaruh #229 synthetic brush. It does not foam. I did work up what looked like the beginning of a lather, but it disappeared quickly. I was able to continue with just cold water though. I did two passes with the Probak razor and Gillette Silver Blue blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed... So, I will keep the Cremo and use it in my Menthol Monday rotation. It wasn't too bad. This tube should last me years considering it will be used only once a month at most.
Good morning, Jim. I started mixing it with Williams lately. I load the brush up with Williams and bowl lather, then add a dollop of the Cremo in the bowl, and after whipping it around a few seconds it results in an "uber" lather which is very pleasant and lasts. I get the best out of both products! Dan
I couldn't remember if I had taken pictures but I did. The first photo is the mixed lather (Williams soap puck + Cremo Cooling) before the shave. The second photo is what was left after several passes on both a face shave and a head shave.
Yeah, if you need lather you wont like Cremo. You dont need lather though. All it does is hide where youre trying to shave and clog up your razor. Cremo is good stuff if you like latherless though. Its super slick.
This is a funny coincidence! Another TSD member, my lovely girlfriend Amy Warner, asked me to pick her up some shave cream " with menthol in it" this morning. (We didn't want to wait for an order). So I ran by Target and got two tubes of the Cremo Cooling. I could smell the menthol through the cap, and I'd never tried it myself either. So I'm sitting here in the car waiting for her to get out of work and decided to visit our site. What a blast that this review was so recently posted and I'm reading it with two tubes in a bag on the seat next to me! Now we know what to and not to expect. Thanks for the review, gotta love TSD and happy shaving!
My shave later the day after first purchasing Cooling Cremo was very similar. After reading your review, and the others, I didn't attempt to lather, but I did apply with a lightly damp brush. I do enjoy the menthol, though it's not heavy by any means, and enjoy the fragrance of it mixed with peppermint. Also enjoyed the slickness (though I really don't know what that means), and the feeling of my skin after rinsing. Overall a very good experience. I'm a dyed in the wool Barbasol daily user, but I'm sure I'll use it again from time to time as a change of pace. Cool thread! Happy shaving!
Short and to the point! Lol. I lathered a combo of Barbasol Arctic Chill and Cremo Cooling today. Fantastic, slick, skin friendly, shiny lather. See...Barbasol goes well with anything.
