After having made a couple of brush stands in the past few years, my dad now made me a shaving bowl. I am extremely happy with my new bowl (quite heavy though, compared to my old plastic one)!
He is 84 so I don't think he's planning to scale up But those handmade brush stands, and this shaving bowl, mean a lot for me.
You will cherish them for the rest of your life. I’m intrigued by the design of the brush stand. Not sure I’ve seen one quite like it. The colors and patterns on the bowl are most attractive and very appealing. Very nice.
I have three of those stands, for the brushes I have in regular rotation, in different sizes. The holes at the bottom are vent holes; with the first one he made (ornament on my desk now), it took a very long time for the brush to dry. The openings around the bottom aid the air circulation, and prevent a buildup of moisture. My dad is a lifelong wetshaver, but he is strictly one brush, one soap, one razor. As long as I can remember, he already uses the same combination.
What a wonderful gift! It looks so handsome. But I must admit, when I read the title of this thread, my first thought was "How nice. I bet you've always wanted to be a shave bowl."
Those Dutchies speak English nearly as well as -- and in some cases better than -- a native English speaker. Which is why it is so hard to practice Dutch with them. In any case your/his English is certainly better than my Dutch.
