I actually ordered 2 razors--a Feather Portable and a Merkur Barberpole. The Merkur arrived today from Phil at Bull Goose Shaving. I'm still waiting on the Feather, but I just ordered it a few days ago. Even though I haven't used it yet, I like the weight of the Merkur. Everyone seems to love the Feather Portable, and you can't beat the price, so I'm looking forward to trying it also. I ordered some Col. Conk bay rum shave soap from Phil also. I'm totally new to the massive variety of soap and shaving cream, but this bay rum soap has a pretty strong smell! (I haven't even taken it out of the package yet.) I have everything I need now except the brush, which is in the mail. Hopefully I'll be able to get started by Tuesday or Wednesday!
Sweet! In a few months you will look back on this post and then at your bank account and think to yourself "$700.00 later but I still have my first razor."
Looking forward to your first shave report, and before you start.... Remember the do's and don'ts: Do prep properly first... Do take your time... Don't apply any pressure... Don't keep going over the same spot... Don't worry if your first time isn't BBS.... Do let us know how it turns out for you... But most of all, enjoy the shave, over time your shaves will get better and better, and the really smooth shaves will fall into place.
Congratulations...WOW, looks like you hit the ground running too...Looking forward to hearing how things go on Tuesday or Wednesday...Be sure and post it...Also be sure and check out the Mantic vids on the Shave School Stickys...Great Stuff...
Re: First DE Razor When I realized that people were still using safety razors, I was intrigued. The first website I found was Classic Shaving. I spoke to Jason and he gave a great introduction in the benefits of DE razors, shave cream that doesn't come from a can, badger brushes, etc. I also realized how much money I could save by using de blades. I probably will try out a few different razors, blades, creams/soaps, etc. But I already have a hobby to bleeds my bank account. I collect vintage hockey cards. I first got interested in cards from the 1950's and 60's, but now I have moved to pre-war cards from 1910 through the 1930's. I love the classic look of the old hockey cards, and that is very similar to some of the old safety razors. Many of them were build to last a lifetime! Just looking at my new Merkur makes me realize how ugly my current plastic razor is! Once I get comfortable with this, I'll pick up something classic.
Nice! Just inquired about a Feather portable today due to all the good reviews/recommendations. I also like the Murker, that one might be a Christmas or birthday present this year. Hope you enjoy your shaves! Shave on!
Stingray forgot to add in the second and third phases of brushes, soaps-creams, and later Colognes-Aftershaves. That has to add another $20 or so.......:rofl
