Hey guys. A few days ago I bought a used lathe and some tools - and it was pretty obvious that I'd try to make a shaving brush. So here it is ... my first atempt at woodturning: Beechwood, the knot is a 22 mm Frank Shaving silvertip, set to a loft of about 48/49 mm (for a bit of backbone). Will use it tomorrow. What do you think?
Thank you all for the kind words guys I treated the handle with 3 coats of my homemade wood preservative paste: Carnauba wax and beeswax dissolved in terpentine oil. And before I put the knot in I coated the inside of the hole with wood glue and let that dry out for a day. If that doesn't work and the wood actually splits , I can always make a new handle and maybe apply some transparent varnish. nope - I swear ... I got the lathe on Sunday and haven't had any previous experience in woodturning. But I spent the first two days just practicing the basic shapes. Spindle turning isn't that difficult actually. The really challenging stuff (at least for me) is bowl turning with its varying grain angle.
