So I just had my first straight shave with my feather ss wit the professional blade. I had a palmolive shave stick and a Wilkinson sword brush wich was 4.50gbp and I thought it was garbage. However please bear in mind I have never used a brush in my life before. So I really wanted to use a bowl so I soaked the bowl and the brush in hot water then tryied to rub the stick in the bowl and use the brush to make a lather. No joy so I rubbed the stick straight on my face and made what I thought was a pretty successful lather. Then the shave I have watched video after video on YouTube however watching and doing are two very different things! The shave was pretty sucsessfull two passes WTG. One slice just under my nose. That hurts but hasn't bled too much. Howervr on the first pass it felt like it was pulling all the time not sure if angle was wrong or face prep. It was about a 4 day groyhe but not too heavy. Any comments greatly revived thanks
    Nathan .

I'm not a straight shaver having only tried it a couple of times. If I'm understanding you, your first shave was with a shavette, is that correct? While your prep and lather(rubbing the stick on your face and then using the brush to face lather is one way to use the stick, another way is to rub the wet brush on the stick and then use the bowl to make a lather) will improve in time. Patience, practice and taking your time are key(especially in the beginning) to improving your prep, lather and shave. From what I've heard using a shavette is harder than a Straight Razor. Although it's not practice for using a straight a nice 1912 or 1924 SE will give you a decent shave easier and a sense of a straight just on a stick......:) Just a thought.

I would say that your angle was definitely off, that razor especially with the Pro blade should glide through those whiskers, I think just like a lot of first timers you go with what you think is a safer option, by trying a less acute angle, when the more acute your angle the more efficient the blade will cut, next time go for the more acute angle It's entirely different to your DE razor poles apart.

Thanks for the input guys the feather is very much like a shavette however most think it is the closest you can get to a straight without the stropping and honeing

In conclusion, Feather and Kai disposable bladed straights should not be included in the general lumping together of shavettes. They are the closest a person can really get to a straight razor shave without using a straight razor. The shaving technique is different, but the resulting shave is the same.

Jamie thanks for your input I will deff try a different angle. I'm sure it would be much different to my de if I had one lol. I will hopefully be buying one soon I have gone from a one blade bic. 10 for a quid sco to the feather artist club ss! I did really enjoy it and I can't wait till next time.

I believe the feather straights are designed to be used with the spine on skin, unlike a regular straight which is more of a 30 degree angle off of the skin.

Yep, my first str8 shave was a bit rough. But, I've stuck with it. Only by doing will you get better.
Hang in there! You'll get it.

Similar. The feather razors are used by laying the blade against the face and then just ever so slightly, raising the spine off of the face. That is the correct angle. If you try to shave with the spine on the face, it will stick like glue.

Thanks again guys also would you recommend keeping the blade in the razor until the next shave or store it elsewhere I dismantled it cleaned and dryied it and reassembled it and have it in my bedroom in the dry.
    Thanks
    Nathan.
Ps I normally go about 3 days between shaves as my beard doesn't grow very fast

I would keep it in the razor. Just make sure everything is dry and you should be fine.
