Starting at the top right going clockwise: five grits of Arkansas, three grits of modern Welsh slate, two DMT plates, 1, 3, 5, and 8k Naniwa, in the middle a Colorado shale and quartzite, bottom two suspected Charnley Forest, and bottom left a vintage Carborundum stone. So far these let me do everything I want to, but I would like to add a 12k and a Coutile.
Uh, no pictures? I wish I could snap my fingers and have straight shaving down pat, and could spend a Sunday morning honing a straight or two.
That's a very nice collection. All I have are the Welsh Slates, a no name, and a couple of King Bevel setters. Oh and a SB Arkie.
I've had good results out of the 12k chi-nat that I picked up from woodcraft, for under $50. It's been very consistent in its performance with most all my blades. They do have to be lapped for a while before it's flat enough to use. But I've also been looking for a few more finishers too.
Nice collection. I've been having pretty good results with a black arkie as a finisher though it might take a couple of tries to hit it. Payday I ordered a 12k naniwa that I'm looking forward to trying.
My black Ark is lapped to two different grits, rougher on one side. It's a little faster that way. I just got the 8k, and would like a 12k so I can jump right into a finishing stone from the synths. From the 5k, I would go to the Ark hard, then the black, then a little work on the Translucent. It made a comfy edge.
I could show my hone collection... .but then I'd be laughed at. All of my stones are aimed at the pocket knife and shop tool "market". But I have a lot of them!
