I just bought Fendrihan’s All Stainless Steel “Ambassador” Price listed at CAD 49.95. My total cost (price+GST+Shipping) $61.89. By comparison, their prices for: iKon OSS All Stainless Steel Safety Razor: CAD158.00 +GST+S/H Wilde & Harte Eltham Razor (all SS) CAD 230.00 +GST+S/H Feather AS-D2 Stainless Steel DE Razor CAD 248.00 +GST+S/H It's one of four new Fendrihan razors: FEN-STEEL-H01 "Scientist" FEN-STEEL-H02 "Ambassador" FEN-STEEL-H03 "Adventurer" FEN-STEEL-H04 "Artist" All use the same head, which is solid Stainless Steel and has Open Comb on one side and Closed Comb on the other. The only difference between them AFAIK is the design of the solid SS handles. I just did a 3-pass shave using a 4-shave-old Gillette Silver Blue, Real Shave Company shaving cream on an Edwin Jagger Pure Badger. I used the Open Comb for pass #1, and the Closed Comb for the 2nd and 3rd passes. Pretty close to BBS with no nicks. I’d have to say the OC side is medium aggressive and the CC side is somewhat on the mild side. Overall a nice new addition to my collection (this is razor number 45).
Prices looks great...hmm...... It does appear they are cast and not machined...which, is to be expected at that price point maybe.
They are on their site. Mr @mantic will be posting a review shortly...I am looking forward to reading that
Can you tell me if the edges of the banding in the knurling is smooth? Just rejected a razor primarily for poor finish to the edges.
Yes they are. www.fendrihan.com (instead of .ca), and the prices would be different (US$ vs. Cdn$) Just search by the "name" I listed
Sorry, BigCabDaddy, I'm not sure I follow what you're asking. Perhaps I could suggest you go to their site and click on the images for a larger view and see if that might give you what you need.
No, going by pictures won't do it. You know the rings -- the smooth bands cut into the handle? Do the edges of those feel smooth or are they sharp?
Oh, OK, I can answer that -- sort of. It's a Cdn$40.00 razor so I don't expect the same fit-and-finish one would see in a Wilde & Harte Eltham Razor for Cdn$230.00, or for a Feather AS-D2 Razor for Cdn$248.00. Having said that the one that I got does feel smooth. I detected no "rough" or "catchy" spots at all. I consider it well done for a razor of that price. Depending on where they are being made, I can't hazard a guess about the level of quality control. Fendrihan is a reputable company, though (I've bought from them on a number of occasions), and I'm sure they would replace one that was defective. I hope that helps, BigCabDaddy,
I agree with you. No way does this razor compare to a Feather let alone an iKon. Good value at $40 though.
Looking at your pictures they did a nice job on the head, it looks as though you won't have any blade alignment issues. Nice pickup.
Clint, he did right below the pictures, looks like it's a pretty good shaver. If I wasn't No Buying I'd be on one of these.
No, I'm good. The head on this razor looks good, the handle is worth the $40. I'm into Gillette's now.
