Okay, please excuse the drawings. Not my best I fear. Measurements in "mm". As you can see the handle is hollow and relatively thin and so subject to dings and dents. The brush is also knot heavy and so not as stable if placed on end instead of hung. A solid handle would work better and make the brush much nicer. The advantage to this design over the traditional Rubberset 400 style is that the ferrule top hole could be made any width from as small as 22mm or as large as 30mm by simply drilling a wider hole. The bottom and ferrule base would be the same regardless of knot width.
My brush has the original nylon knot I was thinking of replacing it with the synthetic white “cashmere” knot but the original knot was it good condition and the thin material kind of scared me as I already had a split.
Seems my number of projects is multiplying. I will see how the Rubberset stuff goes before I commit but this Gibbs seems a no brainer. I also have a C-Mon and. Dubl Duck to copy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Both C-Mon & Dubl Duck are among the few brushes I've owned that really didn't last. The Dubl Duck literally became unusable and the ferrule oval shaped instead or round from one drop. The C-Mon was a wood handle and the knot expanded enough to lead to stress cracks in the ferrule.
Two other shapes to consider: High slim waist and wider waist: Also another from StrongSet seen on the right:
I know your copying well known vintage offerings (there are several). But I'd like to add your version (in my mind an improvement over the original 400) AND I'm gonna get a silver serfer from brothers bristles @Tdmsu . It's durability, simplicity, and smooth lines are very appealing to me. I'd look at making your second a brush of your own lines. The info you get from making a copy of the 400 (maybe the best), should give you the insight to make your own nearly perfect.
Can you give me a link to the silver surfer brushes? I won’t copy them of course. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
