I purchased Jody's rare and beautiful Gillette Regent Tech and due to an unusual occurrence was owed a free replating from a company I'd worked with years ago -- Tanury Industries in Lincoln, Rhode Island. So since the gold plating and lacquer had eroded some, I took them up on this project. And am glad I did. 24 carat gold plating. When you compare it to the more common later 1940s Aristocrats, you'll see the differences in this razor's design. Differences inside and out. Including no endcaps. Ever wonder about the funciton of those little endcaps. Thanks Jody! What a beauty. Seems like the set was created just before the US entered WWII and so were only manufactured for part of a year -- and never advertised. At least none of us were able to locate any ads for this set. And while the Brits had making the rhodium plated razors, those higher end razors made in the US were more often plated in gold. We had the gold mines -- the Brits had Rhodesia as a colony -- and a source of rhodium. Glad this one is gold!
Congratulations Jake....The whole set is WOW!!...Hard to believe that box has been around since Pre-WWII.....and that razor....Forget about it, that beauty looks like it just came from the factory.....ENJOY !! And Congratulations Jody....You just hooked up another cat with a Dream-Razor....
Truly the razor looked great before the replating. But even better afterwards. And I couldn't pass when the price was so reasonable. Great set. Thanks Jody!
Is it possible to do PVD coatings on the brass bodies, Jake(asking, as you said you used to work with them)? A Ti Fatboy would really put a smile on my face...
Thats an understatement ....I guess now there's enough gold on there Chuck Norris could use it daily and never wear it off...
