Before I start... as always these opinions are my own.. I am not being sponsored and or held at gun point at the time of writing this but more importantly YMMV. I received my first ever Catie's Bubbles (CB) soap this morning in the scent "Le Piment De La Vie" which translates to The Spice of Life. I just had my first shave with it and figure I would share my thoughts on it. I will also be rating the customer service for CB as I got in touch with Chris of CB before using it as I had a question. Also to give you guys more insight on how I view this soap I will also post the ratings IMO of a soap I use quite often... Mitchells Wool Fat. Here we go! MWF Scent - 1/10 I don't get a scent really besides soap from it. Ease of Lathering- 7/10 Took me a while to get this soap figured out but once I did I no longer have issues with it. Quality of Lather/Cushion/Slickness/Protection/ Ect- 8/10 No complaints here. Great cushion, slickness, and glide. Overall Soap Rating- 7.5/10 Great Soap and a frequent soap in my rotation Cons- Annoyingly thirsty at times, sever cracking problem, sometimes a pain to lather. Now for the part you came to see!!! Uhh read I mean... LPV Scent- 10/10- Homerun! Touchdown! Goal! This scent is absolutely amazing IMO. Very complex.. It's Spicy, it's sweet, I get Cinnamon, Bergamot, Nutmeg, Vanilla, Citrus, and 450 other scents that I cant put my finger on. It is an intoxicating scent and I keep walking over to the tub just to smell it. As an added bonus SWMBO loves it. Ease of Lathering -10/10 -This is by far the easiest soap to lather I have ever used. It basically lathers itself. Not even joking 10 seconds of loading with my JR #23 Silvertip and I had way more then enough for 3 passes. You could actually even say I overloaded the brush. Again very easy to whip up. Quality of Lather/Cushion/Slickness/Protection/ Ect-9.5/10- Lather was amazing, thick, yogurt like, slick as snot, cushion and protection was outstanding as well. After each pass it left a slick film perfect for blade buffing and touch ups. Customer Service-11/10- I contacted Chris of CB with a question as the soap had a brown tint to it when I opened it and from pics/reviews I have seen it is suppose to be white. Chris took the time to not only let me know that this is normal/can happen but also explained how/why it happens. He was very helpful and answered other questions I had about other scents as well. The fact that he went into detail and really made sure I understood what was going on was awesome customer service IMO. Cons-I guess if you forced me to complain about one thing it would have to be the container...it is packed so full that initial loading is messy...so I guess I would opt for a bigger container.. that's my only gripe about this soap. Overall Soap Rating- Drumroll please!!!!!!!! ---9.9/10 This soap is just flat out amazing. LPV has jumped way ahead many of my beloved soaps and creams in my den. It has surpassed the likes of Tabac, MWF, TOBS, Gada, Ingram, Arko, and others. This soap would easily be my absolute favorite soap however the #1 spot belongs to the Stirling Glacial Line as I am a giant menth head although it is insanely close. Final thoughts/Recommendations/Ect... I am glad I picked up this soap however I got very lucky. 8 oz of soap you have never smelled before is a gamble and if I could go back I would buy a sampler pack to see which scents I like before just winging it and buy those. It also carries a semi high price tag to me ($20 for 8 oz) but maybe that's just me as up until last month I had never spent more then $10 on a puck of soap but at the same time $2.50 an ounce for soap of this quality and the amount you get is not so bad IMO. Who would I recommend this soap too? Everyone except those who are sensitive to strong scents as a few scents (Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Ect.) have been known to set faces ablaze. I have very sensitive skin (think freshly broken up with woman watching The Notebook sensitive and you have my skin) but surprisingly got no burn or discomfort from this soap. Have you tried Catie's Bubbles? Have you tried LPV? What are your favorite CB's scents?
Great review. Caties is a great soap. 200g for $20 is a lot of soap. Try mile high menthol if you need the kick. Not over powering but menthol for sure.
Mile High Menthol is on my too try list as well.. Didn't see it on the site but I have LTV and Celtic Knot en route to me also.... After my wallet recovers from the beating its gotten this week I plan on picking up QCV, MHM, Waterlyptus, and a few others.
Never tried the splash. I don't really buy much splash as I only use a select few splashes and only stock up on those. I know what I like splash wise so I don't risk it buying the unknown
I got the French style..it is a croap...it seems softer then Proraso Green... almost cream like if that makes sense..
No problem! From what I heard they have hard soaps as well. Let me know what you think when you pick some up
I love CB LPV! I have a couple more CB soaps, one that you might want to try is Catie's Bubbles Inspirazione Di Parma only available at razor blades and more. Super review!!
I'll add that one to the list! I have LTV, Celtic Knot, and Mile High Menthol en route to me at the moment. I almost bought QCV but after reading the description I hesitated and will probably prolong buying that one if I do at all. LPV is a winner in my books. The wife says it smells like carrot cake but she loves it so I guess that's a good smell to her
Catie's Bubbles Jardin D'Or Catie's Bubbles Le Marche Du Rasage (LMR) And Ocean Groove. Plus above mentioned.
I wanted to pick up LMR based on the reviews it's gotten but it was out of stock last night... What's the scent on Jardin D'Or ? Have you tried LTV, Celtic Knot, or Mile High Menthol?
Jardin D'Or is sweet honeysuckle blossom, nectar, oakmoss, and patchouli. Basically awesomeness in a jar.
That sounds amazing!!!!! I just checked...that and a few other scents I want to try are back in stock...must resist temptation!
Nice write up Mr. Freeze. Thank you for taking the time. Unfortunately, I have one of those faces that was set ablaze by LPV. Too bad, the scent is unique and intoxicating. I also enjoyed the scent of the AS. Both, sadly, are now absent from my den.
That is a shame. I was worried I would have the same issue as I stated above as my skin is also very sensitive. I got lucky on that. Are there any other CB scents you like that don't light your face up?
