Hi i'm new to the forums but have been browsing this site for quiet some time.

For the past while i have been using Gillete Fusion power and more recently the Gillete Proglide Razors.
I have very sensitive skin (Redness etc) and i am getting sick of getting the occasional nicks and always buying new blades. Etc.

I was looking into switching to an electric razor but have no idea where to turn. I love to wet shave so that would be a preference of mine.
Only thing i have found that looks like what i am looking for is the: Philips Norelco Nivea for Men Razor - HS8420

If someone would be kind enough to tell me if this is what i am looking for or guide me in the right direction of what i should be looking for, i would be extremely grateful.

    Thanks,
    Jack

I used to have the Norelco Arcitec razor as of a year ago..I could only recall it gave me a very smooth shave 1 time in the 2 years I had it...
if I sat under a fan or in a cold room it went well..I have sensitive skin and when the shave heads get warm/hot..I have to wait 5 minutes to cool down the razor n my face..then go again..though if you dont have sensitive skin any shaver will work for you.

Personally I think you're headed out of the frying pan and into the fire with the electric. If you'd care to try the DE option, let me know via PM and I'll sort out a Gillette Tech and a pack of decent blades for you with my compliments. Then you should check out a series of videos on youtube posted by a guy called Mantic. They'll get you started right.

    Welcome to the Den

well i used electric for 20y (just turned 38) and just started DE a couple months ago, there is no comparrison. DE wins hands down, without a doubt. i've used my electric 1 time during that period and it was too try and get a shave early on when i was getting redness and just starting out, but it left my face red and irritated as well.

go DE and don't look back. ;) hopefully i never have to use an electric again :whacky011

the last electric i used, wasn't bad for irrititaion and closeness. it was a Philips/Norelco Nivea rotary. but the lotion was whicked expensive and the heads are just as pricey.

    Welcome movi3king,

Take the other gents up on their offers to send you razor & blades! I recently gave up an expensive electric for DE wetshaving & there is no comparison, IMHO...

Just wanted to thank you all for the welcome wishes.

I did send my address out to the friendly fellows who offered to help me out with the blades.

I have 1 question thou. What are DE shaves? I see a few of you mentioned it and that you love it.

    Thanks,
    Jack

Yessir. I know my neck is pretty sensitive. I got lots of redness when using the Gillette fusion or any multi blade besides some random Gillette two blade disposables.

The switch to DE made my redness go down drastically and now I only get redness when I rub my face after. I must say once you try the DE and get the handle of it. You will be happy you didn't buy an electric. Unless you hate it...

If you use the right shave cream and aftershave balm, you should not be getting any nicks or redness from a Fusion or ProGlide (from my own experience). Maybe you just need to switch up your skin care products instead?

But of course, try a DE razor if you haven't. You might get converted! I have been, but I still use the Fusion if I need a very quick shave.

I have used an electric razor exclusively since I started shaving over 50 years ago. The best brand? Panasonic, without a doubt. However, if you want to get a good shave, you absolutely have to use a pre-electric shave lotion. There is only one brand worth using, and that is Aramis Lab Series. One bottle will last you 2 - 3 months, and using this combination (Panasonic+Aramis), you will get super-smooth shaves without the bathroom masochism of blade shaving. If you convert from a blade, it will take a bit of time, and yes, electric shaves do take longer. Most of the Panasonic models are wet and dry, meaning you can use them with shaving soap. I've tried this when I've been away and forgotten my Lab Series, and it works really well. I finish up with an after-shave balm. Currently, I'm using "z Zegna". It's really light and non-greasy.

I used electrics for about eight years, and they are frankly unpleasant, at least for me. It's one blade only for this cat, I'm never going back.

I'm with crackstar, none allowed in my house. I'm glad to see you took the other fellows up on their offers to get you started with wet shaving.
