Picked up my first razor this past week while out of town at "our" antique shop. I never knew that it was such a big hobby. I cleaned mine up last night and finally figured out that it's a 1953 superspeed. I believe the $2 (plus tax) that I pad was well worth it and can't wait to go back and snag the others.
$2 + tax for a 53 Super Speed!!! FANTASTIC score!!! If all of his vintage safety razor prices are along those lines, I'd be doing a lot more business in the future with that antique shop.
Went and hit 4-5 antique stores yesterday, Mullica Hill area, and came across maybe, maybe, a dozen safety razors, the majority SEs. Not a one of 'em under $30 without a case!!!
This was our second trip to the shop. The town is 2.5 hours one direction from us but we like going there. I honestly grabbed the razor because it was the only nifty thing that I saw. Once I got home though and started learning more I became really fascinated with them so I'll e going back. Some were $4-$5
The price really depends on where you happen to be. I was in NE Oklahoma a few months ago and came across several SE and DE bargains, roughly one third the price or what's here in Colorado. I've learned that if I see something I like I'd better buy it then because it will be gone when I go back.
A warm welcome to you from North Texas. You might want to take a look at some of the references contained in my signature line below for discussions of the 30 Day systems and more on hardware. With that being said ... Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
$4 was the original price but that vender was doing 1/2 off Also, I didn't mention that those photos are after I thoroughly scrubbed it with soap/toothbrush. It was really gunked up when I got it. I want to get polish eventually and shine it up really nice
