    Hey All:

I was wondering how many of us are face latherers and how many of us are mug latherers?

When I had my three year old floppy badger, I was going to the face. Now with the Vulfix mixed 404 in town, I am going to the mug.

So which is your preferred method and why. Also if you have any other approaches please share. I look forward to learning some more.

    Scott,
I am a bowl latherer because I build a great lather with either my badgers or boars. On my last pass I breach the brush to bring the rest of lather out of the brush for the last pass.
I have tried face lathering personally the quality of shave was not not there for me.

I guess I am a hybrid mug-face latherer. I tend to get a decent lather started in the mug to last for 3 passes+, then face lather to get it nice and thick.

I am quite the opposite of Brad, I go to the mug just long enough to load up my brush and then I build up my lather right there on my face. I get consistently awesome results from face lathering so I tend to use it more often than not. I do get very good results from bowl lathering too but it just adds the step of cleaning up a bowl too, at the end of my shave.

I abandoned the bowl as soon as I tried face lathering. For me there is no going back, as I found it's too easy to get perfect lather every time. I get excellent lather with the bowl too but I feel like for me face lathering helps the beard get softened and the brush helps for better exfoliation and complexion.

Face latherer here! I started using a bowl and never even thought of anything else. Until I got into DE shaving and got myself a variety of soaps including some shave sticks. That was the turning point and never looked back.

I like a mug but also really like to scub it into my face for each pass for the exfoliation factor, so I guess my lather is made in the mug and actively applied to my face.

I enjoy making the lather and watching it fill the mug too :)

Mug. Kinda looking forward to the Face Lathering Theme Week in January. I'll focus on the technique then. Until then, I just prefer the mug.

I'm about 70% face latherer and 30% mug/scuttle. I like the scuttle best. I only have time for it on Fridays when I do my straight shave. I include the stick with my 70% face lather. I like variety.

Would love to try a scuttle. It sounds unreal.

For the most part, I lather in a scuttle. When I mug lather, it is strictly because I have a Green Marvy Mug that my Vintage Williams lives in. I do face lather, but really only when I am travelling, for the most part. I went on a face lather only kick awhile back, as an add on to my travelling face lather experience. Every now and then, when I use a shave stick, I have to face lather by default... I also from time to time slap a dap of cream on each cheek and here and there and face lather if I am in a hurry.

Mostly though, I lather in the scuttle, because I like warm lather.

I started off lathering in a bowl, but dropped my bowl of choice. While waiting on a replacement, I face lathered. I don't think I have bowl lathered since.

Tried bowl lathering, but face lathering worked better for me. I travel alot, so face lathering is just simpler.

I'm a mug latherer. But with my new silvertip brush, the handle is much too small to use my mug, so I have been going through a crash course in face lathering...I think it is time to look up mantic's videos again.

I boil water in the tea-pot for the scuttle. My third pass still offers up hot lather-pure luxury. My brother got a hot pot to warm water for his scuttle-he says
    that works very well.

About 90% bowl lathering for me. I only face lather on a whim or when I'm traveling.

Face. For me it's the equally good results in less time. I also like having one less thing to clean.

I used to bowl lather exclusively and I never even had an inclination to face lather. I couldn't understand how you could get a good lather from just your face. That was until I got an Arko shave stick and was more or less forced to face lather. It worked fantastically and now I find myself face lathering more than half of the time. I also find that it saves a little time in the morning to face lather.
