first thank you for adding me. i previously have been bit by the wet shave again after many years. i enjoy collecting and caring for these old beuties and enjoy the knowledge on the Shave Den again thank you
Welcome aboard. That one on the left is interesting. That is actually a legit frankenrazor. The base plate is what is called a Roller guard made by the Chicago Roller Guard company or some similar name. It was made to be a replacement guard for the old type Gillettes and also the new improved Gillettes which is what that razor in the Tuckaway set should be. The guard was made sometime circa 1927 - 1929 when the original patents ran out for the Gillette DE razor design. So even though it isn't the original guard it is a legit piece made for that razor.
good eye .yes i have seen a few NOS roller guards for sale recently . this one says roller guard razor co. chicago usa patent pending. my other tuck away kits have the standard base plates
Those are the earlier ones, the later ones made I think 1928 and up have patent number and date instead. I've had both style guards in the past. No difference in how they shave just one of those informational tidbits. Chicago Roller Guard also produced a full 3pc razor with that guard. They do show up every now and then but are much harder to come by than just the guard by itself. If you have the time stop by the Gillette's finest thread and post pics of some of your sets.
thanks everyone for the welcome. yes i will start displaying some sets soon. i collect but i also love to shave with them. they are amazing compared to the disposables for sure. i also love spreading the word to my friends lol
