Hello all, My name is Bryan, and I am beginning to explore the world of DE wet shaving. I have always been a cartridge blade shaver, using canned ooze, but after stumbling across some videos on YouTube, I became interested in trying safety razors, and traditional soaps. My hope was that I would enjoy shaving more, and have healthier, less irritated skin post shave. I have to admit that there is a certain romance to doing things in a more thoughtful, and artful way, which makes this form of wet shaving more appealing too. After reading some reviews, and watching a bunch more videos, I purchased some gear online and have been practicing with it. I had previously never made a multiple pass shave, so getting to know my growth patterns has been very interesting- and challenging. My second shave with the DE was the closest shave I have ever felt, and I could not believe I was touching my face afterwards. This only fueled my interest, after which I bought even more kit, and now my medicine cabinet puts my dear wife's to shame- or is it the other way around. I can tell she doesn't quite get it by the way she looks at me when boxes come in the mail; I just take my little box, tail tucked, and walk to my bathroom... It's not really that bad, funnier than anything else. Anyhow, great to be here, and I look forward to getting to know people, and learn from your experiences, as well as share my own! Best regards, Bryan
Welcome to TSD! My first DE razor was the Exwin Jagger DE89, so I voted for it! Both are solid choices.
Hi from another Mainer! Where are you from? I was born in Van Buren. Folks now live in Addison, a short hour up Rt 1 from Ellsworth. We go up every year. My first DE was the 34C. I now have a 34G and a custom 34C with a red mallee burl handle. Love the HD!
That is a beautiful area of Maine- I'm right outside of Portland in Yarmouth. What're you living now? I like the 34c ok, but think I will like the finish on the de89 better. I'll know more this afternoon when the mail comes in.
Living in Pennsauken, NJ, directly across the river from Philadelphia. I retired at McGuire AFB after 20 years Air Force. Started pastoring a church a couple of years before I retired. God's idea for me to be here, not mine, but I'll trust Him.
Wow- that is an amazing set of experiences. My sister works just over the river from Philly too, at Rutgers, she commutes from the city. Our dad was an AW in the navy for 26 years, which is what brought us to Maine back in the mid nineties. Neat coincidence's
Welcome to the Den Bryan. I voted for the 34C. The DE89 is a good razor though. Both will give you a great shave as you are discovering.
Welcome to the Den, Bryan. Your DE shaves will only get better from here. On top of that is the enjoyment. While it takes longer, DE shaving is more of an indulgence rather than a chore.
Bryan, welcome to the Shave Den. You're off to a great start! Either the DE89 or the 34C would be great razors. I started with a Muhle R89 (same head as the DE89), and it is a great razor. BTW, my Bride and I took a trip to Bar Harbor, Maine a couple of years ago. We loved Maine. You live in a beautiful place.
to TSD " Bryan" I started with both of those razors and IMO they shave comparatively, giving excellent shaves. I picked the EJ89 because as a three piece it gives you the versatility of changing handles(different weights, lengths, diameters and knurling) while keeping the shame shave head. I hope you enjoy it here.
