Hello everyone. I signed up a couple weeks ago and have really enjoyed poking around at all the different topics and all the great advice that has been given and the real sense of hospitality, especially the moderators. I have really enjoyed participating in the pif's. I mentioned in one of pif's that I am picking up my gear piecemeal at certain increments based on weight loss. I currently have a soap holder and a couple pucks of Williams soap. I just purchase a superspeed and am looking forward to my first shave (after I hit my goal weight ). If anyone would please do me a favor and direct me to any threads on DE restoration. I would truly appreciate it.
Welcome, nice to have you here. If you want to clean up a DE, one of the best things you can do is get some Scrubbing Bubbles. Buy the kind in the spray can and get yourself an old toothbrush. Spray it on, let it sit for a couple minutes, and then scrub all the scum off of it. Repeat until it is clean to your liking.
Welcome. That Super Speed will be a great starter razor. Ryan's advice is good on cleaning it up. You may try soaking in warm soapy water at first too, especially if the TTO mechanism is sticky. Then scrubbing bubbles and a toothbrush should get it clean and germ free. If you really want to go crazy, you can polish it up with some Brasso, Flitz, Maas, or Blue Magic metal polish. Just use something non-abrasive like any of those and you should be in good shape. The polishing isn't really necessary and make sure you wash all the polish off well with more scrubbing bubbles or soapy water before you shave with it.
Haven't seen it locally but Amazon has it. Not sure if that's the best deal you could find though. I picked up some Blue Magic at the auto parts store and it works fine.
to TSD nascarfandan......I hope you enjoy it here... The Super Speed is a very well made, mild razor..As for restoration Ryan and Brian have said it all. ALOT of soaking in hot water and Dawn goes a long way. Sometimes on a Gillette adjustable I'll use one of those sonice cleaners also. As for polishing I use Mother's Mag polish with good results.... [Edit] sonic to ultrasonic sorry about that....
Welcome aboard, officially! I remember your PIF caption . Hope you're enjoying the boards. I got Maas from an auto parts store. I also like Haggerty silversmith's polish & Fitz polish, available at many hardware stores & on Amazon as well.
