    Hi,

I just bought a Edwin Jagger DE86 from WCS and waiting for it to arrive..
I also bought an OMEGA Boar shaving Brush, which i want to upgrade to either Tweezerman badger or Edwin jagger best badger brush(not too sure which to get...$15 vs $44)
    also bought:
    -Proraso Green Tea w/Aloe Pre-Shave
    -Nivea shaving cream
    -Nivea after-shaves
-waiting for the sampler blades from WCS as well..

I'm hoping to get my razor sometime this week, and was wondering, how often do you replace your blades?
and where can i get inexpensive razor/brush stand?

    thx

Welcome to TSD! This is the best wet shave board on the planet!

Change your blades when they start to tug instead of cut hair. I get 3 shaves out of most blades but have found one that gives me 6.

Inexpensive brush stand...I use velcro dots on the end of my handles and hang them under a cabinet. You can make a cheap stand out of coat hangers and there are cheap stands available at Shaveabuck:

3-6 shaves out of one side or 3 shaves out of the whole blade?

    Welcome!

I got a DE86 a few months ago and like it a lot. I find it does its best work with blades that run the sharper side of the scale (Astra, 7-Oclock Yellow, Iridium, etc) since it seems to be a mild and forgiving shaver.

I have a Tweezerman and have used the tarnation out of it and it keeps a going. You can't go wrong with that one for the price IMHO.

Out of the whole blade. You may get more, some people get a bunch more. Blades are cheap though!

haha.. I realize that they are cheap...I just won't remember to replace them so often.. i have a hard time remembering when to put on new contact lens.. ;)
I just hope that I find the one i like out of the sampler pack...that lasts long..

Um yeah...good luck with that! Most of us have said "I am only going to buy one razor, one soap and one brush."

Next thing you know, you are looking for more shelf space to store your gear.

I made the argument that I wanted EXACTLY three brushes. First is my Ever Ready Badger. 2nd is my super badger (a Vulfix). Last is my Tweezerman, which I travel with and is expendable if lost. So you see, THREE can be rationalized.

    Welcome to the Den.

    As for blades...

I hand strop a fresh DE blade in every Monday morning and pop it in a razor. When I finish the shave, I take the blade out, hand strop it and put it in a different razor for Tuesday. I repeat that every day until Friday. After Friday's shave, I toss the blade. I do three passes plus touch-up for every shave.

    On Saturday's I use a str8 razor.

On the first Sunday of the month I hand strop a fresh SE blade and pop it in a razor. When I finish the shave, I take the blade out, hand strop it and put it in a different razor for next Sunday. I repeat that every Sunday until the last one of the month. After that last shave, I toss the blade. I do three passes plus touch-up for every shave.

As to your question about one side or the whole blade, I scrape a bit, rinse the razor, flip it to the other edge, scrape a bit, rinse, repeat.

If you're doing the math, I get four to five shaves, three passes each plus touch-up, per blade.

    Welcome, and enjoy the forums!:D

Blade life can vary quite a bit, depending on brand, how tough your beard is, and other things. Experiment a little bit.

The least expensive razor and brush stands can be the ones you make yourself from materials at hand, like a metal coathanger, and I'm totally serious about that.

I came home from work and found out that I had finally gotten my Edwin Jagger DE86. So I decided to give it a try....

and... i cut myself in 4 places...i'm scared now...oh man, i have to go to a wedding tomorrow too...

also, Do I take the blade out and dry it or just shake it a few times to store it for the next morning?

i guess i should watch the youtube vids on how to shave a few more times..
