I have started shaving with a Gillette Knack TTO (my starter kit) with favorable results and have a Fat Boy adjustable enroute, thinking I should try two different razors with the same brand blade for experimentations purposes. My question is what is a knack TTO and what does TTO stand for? How will it compare to the fat boy?

Is there a wiki or post that describes all the Gillette DE shavers and compares them?

    Regards.

TTO = twist to open... as opposed the the Three piece razors that screw apart to replace the blade. There are many models of both. Don't forget the one piece Single Edge stuff also :D

The fatty is my daily shaver...IMO the finest adjustable ever made! I know, opinions vary!! But PLEASE do not go higher than #3!! You will get a great shave!! It is also quite heavy, so always keep in mind to let the heft of the razor do the work!! Pressure = razor burn!!

Personally I find the knack to be a cheaply made imitation of the previous quality Gillette razors. The Fatboy is a quality instrument and should serve you well as would many others.

the knack is non-adjusting. the adjuster on the fatboy allows you to change the blade gap, thus making the razor more aggressive or more mild.

I don't think there's a wiki like that. You're welcome to ask questions here, though. If you hang around long enough you'll get to know who knows about your topic (and what their bias is) and you'll be able to ask directly through private messages. Until then, don't be afraid to post questions just like you've already done.

I have never used a knack. I don't really care for the profile of the TTO heads. However, of the Gillette adjustables, Fatboy is probably my favorite.

I know this doesn't give you quite what you wanted, but it will let you see many of the various earlier Gillette models. Achim put together a great site full of pics to use to identify and learn from... http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Gillette Rasierer.htm

Thanks for the feedback, the link is very interesting. I am looking forward to the arrival of the fat boy. It will be an interesting comparison of which I shall report my enthusiastic though novice findings. Though I am so new to the wet shave experience, my learning curve will probably be steep.

I travel quite a bit and because of the nature of my job, carry on luggage is the order of the day. This eliminates carrying a DE razor (though mailing one to one or two of the hotels I frequent is an option). I've taken an interest in injector shavers because the TSA will allow that and a cartridge in carry on bags.

I am interested in the Persona in the TSD store but also am looking at bidding on a style L,M or N Schick on ebay. Do any of you gentlemen have any feedback on to the relative merits of these shavers? I see that injector blades are quite available and with some brand options as well.

sol92258 I have no earthly idea

The Knack is actually a quite capable, mild shaver. I don't like the plastic handle, but with the TTO know right under the head it gives it a good balance/weight on the blade.

The Fatboy is indeed a good man-razor. However, I'm going to buck the norm and proclaim my preference for the long handled super adjustable, it is probably my favorite razor.

As for travel, you might consider the Bic Metal, it's a disposable, but with a single blade and a bar the mimics a traditional DE/SE quite well.
