First off, thanks for such a warm welcome to the community. I thought you might find my story a little bit interesting. I am turning 40 this year but back in my early 20's I actually used to use a DE safety razor. I purchased one then simply because it looked cool and made sense to me at the time. It was offered up at my local store along with all the regular disposables. I think it was just a cheapo that cam in blister pack for like $7.99 I didn't know at the time there was a technique or that it was really any different than a regular disposable! It just looked cool and made sense along with an obvious financial savings. Well, I don't really remember having any difficulty or learning curve. I just started using it and liked it. Thought I was kind of cool for using it too I think I just figured it out naturally to be honest. After a couple of years it simply got old and didn't work right though. I think I cut myself really bad because it was out of whack. I threw it away and went back to the disposables. Well, recently while shopping with my wife, I couldn't believe the prices we were paying for disposables. So I decided right then and there that would go back to that metal thing that you put single blades in. However, they didn't have any at the store. I looked at all my local stores but nothing .... just blades. So I decided to take a look online for one and came across tons of sites, videos, jargon, coinneseurs, etc. WOW overwhelming information overload and excitement at the same time. So it seems I am going to settle here for a while as I make my transition back to good old days. It just strikes me a little funny that this whole world of wet shaving exists and I didn't even know it! I must say however, that I am looking forward to it. I am going to order my first razor tonight and can't wait for that first shave experience.
Welcome again! Like Tom said, you're among friends here, so feel free to ask any questions you may have, and keep us up to date on your progress.
Welcome! Using a DE certainly can save you money, but for a lot of us it doesn't, as we go overboard with the equipment and the accessories. Watch out for the acquistion disorders!
Thanks .... I forgot to mention my name! Call me Ken if you prefer. Slivovitz, Thanks for the heads-up. I sort of see that coming as I am already thinking about all the nice accessories, soap, brushes, etc. And even though I just ordered my Weishi an hour ago, I'm already looking at what my my next step up might be :ashamed001
I just posted my introduction a bit ago and started to look around and saw this from you. It's really pretty similar to mine in that I'm revisiting something I did in my 20's about 20 years later. I know what you mean about the razor prices too. Crazy. I wonder if it has something to do with our age? [I'm 38 but it's the same thing really.] I think for me I thought it was just cool to use the old DE razors and I appreciated them from the beginning. Now I think it's just somehow more noble to use them. The whole process is longer and you have to sort of be present and it's a perfect mini-meditation for me too. I dunno. I read into everything really but it's nice to hear a similar story. Cheers.
Yeah, I don't know why but I understand what you are saying. I just received my razor today and I'm liiking forward to shaving tonight. I never look forward to shaving before
