Hey, I can't believe this. I've already gone to several pharmacies in my area and guess what - not one of them seems to carry any styptic pencils. Supposing a guy nicks himself or gets a bad cut while shaving how's he supposed to stop the bleeding, besides putting wet tissue paper on the spot?
It may seem gross but split will help stop the blood. Not sure how but it helps coagulate the blood. Just to be clear I use a Clubman Pinaud styptic pencil and it works, but I also use the spit method and it works also. Probably the main benefit to spit is availability and price.
That's strange that you can't find one, I've used my styptic pencil for more non-shaving related cuts then I have shaving nicks. I know. TMI
Thanks Mark. I was using some asthma inhalers that cause my skin on my arms to get thin, if I bumped into something my arm would bleed. The septic pencil came in real handy. I'm no longer on those inhalers.
Perhaps the shavepocolypse has started. They picked the item we would notice the least, to start with .
Canada and the Netherlands are two different countries - at least your great country carries some fantastic shaving stuff like De Vergulde Hand soap!
Both local pharmacies, Walgreens and Walmart, have them available to order but not carried in the stores however Sally Beauty Supply seems to have them in stock! I use them so rarely that I still have one I bought years ago. I suspect that with so many using carts there isn't a lot of nicking going on anymore.
I can see it now... insane prices on eBay for "rare" styptics imported from Canada and the Netherlands!
We need to start sending styptic pencil supply runs for those poor nick prone Canadians. It's the Berlin wall all over again.
