Hello all! New to the forum And new to wet shaving. Hope to learn a lot from everyone. I always used just the cheap disposables and creams. Never knew anything about wet shaving. It all started when I bought a cheapo boar brush and and soap kit. Than as I started watching YouTube videos and seeing how people shave I bought a cheap butterfly razor. Well I soon realized I needed to upgrade and bought an Edwin jagger kelvin which I've only got a couple shaves in with but so far I LOVE it. Bought a van der Hagen badger brush too but not sure yet if I prefer it over the boar brush. The badger lathers better but it's got a funky smell I can't seem to get out of it... Got a sampler pack of blades I'm gunna work my way through and see wich blades I prefer if any. My wife thinks I'm weird. I've dived headfirst into this "shaving thing", but i never knew shaving could be so awesome! So there in a nutshell is my new wet shave life!
Welcome! My wife mentions my "weird shaving thing" occasionally, but she also mentions that my face and skin look great. You're not weird, you are enlightened!
Hi Nick, That badgers arse smell is not too good, is it? Try washing the brush with normal shapoo and hair conditioner a few times, and the smell should start to go away. In between each wash, dry it off by swirling on a towel until most of the moisture is removed and then leave it to dry..This will also help to "break in" the brush ie make it feel softer...
Thanks for the advice. Was just gunna give a few more shaves and see if it would start to smell better on its own before I intervened. I'll try that. Didn't want to do anything that might ruin the brush. These brushes are expensive! Though I'm sure I'll end up with more than just my two beginner brushes
Trying a sample pack of blades is a worthwhile exercise. You will find certain blades work better than others in a particular razor. You'll know it when you find it. It seems with more experience shaving you will start to feel the difference. Oh, and everyone is different(YMMV). What works for me wont for you and so on.
