I've been playing with a shaving soap recipe. I packaged it in jars and let it cure. It's not as solid like the pucks I make...those are very firm and hold their shape well, but you can definitely feel some give if you put enough elbow grease into it. You can also easily dent it with a fingernail. This batch is solid, like a very firm putty...easy to press into, but it's not quite a cream...more like a semi soft puck. Is there a word for this style? French, Italian or??? I'm stumped!
Just my own observation but soap is hard. Drop it and it might dent. Might. Cream is soft. Drop it and it completely deforms and might even splatter. Croap is semi soft. Drop it and it will deform but not splatter. It's all academic. Usually I Water Log my soaps until they resemble croap.
The Italian P.160 came in two different hardnesses. Morbido (soft) and Duro (hard). The Duro was about as hard as a block of butter from the fridge. Morbido is as hard as room temperature cream cheese. It sounds like your soap is similar to the "Duro" hardness. As such, I would call it an Italian style soap.
I'd say Italian style soap. Just my 0.02 More importantly: how does it perform? Got any pics? What's the scent? And if you're willing to share: how d'ya make it?
Thanks for the replies all! Well it doesn't splatter, but it's softer than a hard puck...I shall follow redrocks's advice and call it what I want. I like that idea
