Normally I take my last slivers of shower soap and mash it onto a new bar, avoiding any waste. Normally my thinking is, "If shave soap or shave cream is available to shave with, use that. That's what it's made for." So I'm opening a new bar of soap for the shower, and the razor on the box catches my eye. I've seen it before, since Dove Men + Care has been my only soap for years. So I says to myself, "Self," I says, "it's just a sliver, enough for one shave. Give 'er a go." So I put a bit of water in the bowl, put the sliver in there, then let it sit and dry over night-that really sticks it to the bowl so it doesn't slide around. Using a badger brush, I went at that little sliver just like I go after all my soaps. I figure the only way to find out the differences is to do the usual. Not a thirsty soap, but it did take a while to get a lather I was happy with. It started out really bubbly and foamy before it started to thicken up. Took too long to reach that point for my liking. Being it's Saturday, I had my J R Torrey straight razor on deck. I thought about the possibility of this soap not being very slick, especially for a straight shave, but I went for it. My hunch was correct, not very slick. Probably enough for a DE or SE, but not quite as slick as I like for a Saturday Straight Razor shave. Overall, it'll do in a pinch. As I said, I figure if there's shaving soap around, use that, not a bath/shower soap. Anyway, not enough left for a second shave; fine by me. I scraped out what was left in the bowl and tossed it. I do like the scent, otherwise I wouldn't use it in the shower all over my body, let alone my face. Similar to VdH Luxury. Paired well with C&E Lime. Happy shaves!
