Shave #2 with the Gillette LC New. Better than yesterday. Switched blades to an Astra SP. I ended up with a close shave, but still a sore face, albeit less than yesterday. I think I like the SC and will just say that the LC and I agree to disagree.
29 October 2015 30 Days with Gillette Fat Boy Feather Day 2, actually better than day one. Super long busy day. Great Shave. Veg! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a Fantastic Friday!
Tonight before the gig.....Which razor....Hmmm..Last night my ER 1914 really did acquit it's self admirably. There is none finer...and my 1933 Schick Simplified Automatic Razor, thats another one that has trancended all competition...Ohhh wait a minute...I just remembered...That Schick Repeater is ready for a blade change....muah ha ha ha ha.....Chick-Chick! Ahhhh chalk up another Home-Run for this Schick C3, and the crowd goes Wild!
I see what you are saying and I absolutely agree, my friend....Til one learns the basics....keep it simple....whether shooting, shaving or racing bikes....Develope your technique til it is secondary....I'm a musician and music clinician......and the greatest players in the World, spend most their time reviewing BASICS......But after you have a handle on those....Then Experiment,.If you so desire...and let the -ADs be with you!
I think you're right...and check out that blade exposure...Yikes! Ahh...You said Phil Rizzuto....I used to be a neighbor of his when I was a kid....He was making a living then doing TV commercials and hosting special movie matinees and doing guest star appearances around Richmond VA..
OCtober Focus Day 29: Homemade PS Oil Stirling Synthetic Brush Latha SS Gillette New LC Stirling Unscented PSB Latha Post Shave Ride the cap. Ride the cap. This has really improved my technique. I kept myself strictly to a two pass shave, with no clean up. While I do have a few patches on my neck I normally would have smoothed out a bit, I am pretty close to a DFS, and I feel great. This is the perfect start to my Friday. Have a great day everyone.
10/30/2015 Razor – Wolfman OC with Triad Ti Aristocrat Blade – Feather (1) Brush – Romera Olivewood Synthetic Lather – Strop Shoppe Baker Street Post - Witch Hazel & Captain’s Choice Bay Rum Another near BBS shave this morning. Finished off with the usual witch hazel with menthol followed by CC Bay Rum AS. Happy Friday everyone.
October 30th SOTD Two days’ growth Preshave: Hot Shower Razor: Union Cutlery Spike (near) Wedge, 11/16 Strop: Drygulch Leatherworks Oiled Latigo Brush: Handturned Tulip Poplar Badger Soap: Jabonman Lima-Incienso (Menthol) Postshave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Thayer’s Witch Hazel Aftershave: Vintage Avon Deepwoods Preparing to be death today. I love when Halloween is on a Saturday so you get to dress up twice. I have a linen hooded robe, and a skull mask. Can’t take my scythe to work, but I think they will get the idea. Best part is, I am doing interviews today, so I get to have people interview with Death. Right, shave stuff. Did a fifteen minutes on the Translucent Arkansas last night, and the razor is smoother. Going to try to take it back a little further with a slurry this weekend. I think this is my favorite soap to use. Its good stuff. Did a two pass, N/S and S/N with no touch up. DFS plus, with B- on irritation. Did have two weepers on the chin. Face, chin, and jawline are BBS, but neck is only DFS. Added some Vintage Avon aftershave, and called it good. Happy Friday!
I was looking at this thread yesterday, where distilled water was being discussed. I decided to use distilled water this morning and it definitely makes for a more frothy lather than when I use tap water. Before I started this 30 day focus I measured out 20 grams (1/10th of a jar) of MDC. After using MDC daily for 30 days, I used a grand total of 9.01 grams. That is just a little over 0.3 grams / shave. Therefore, a jar of MDC should last me about 660 days for an average cost of about 12 cents / day. My conclusion is that MDC is very inexpensive. After 30 days of practice I am getting great shaves from the Fat Boy. I am not sure I like it better than my Slim Adjustable, but it definitely can give me as good of a shave. 30 day focus - Day 30 Fat Boy set to 9 Dorco 301 Blade MDC Face Lathered 3 passes
You are a funny guy. First, interviewing people dressed as Death? Priceless! Have fun! Second, you have a scythe?
Thank you for doing the research on MdC. I have never measured my usage but I knew by just looking that a jar of MdC would last a very long time. I agree that despite the high cost of entry, MdC is very economical to use.
OCtober - Trick or TREET October 30 Razor - Gillette New LC Blade - (2) Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - TSD Lanolin Bay Rum Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea Original 'Twas the night before Samhain (halloween) and all through the house, not a creature was stirring.....oh wait....wrong holiday. Sorry about that. And today's shave was more suited to scary things than fun and happy holidays. Day two on the Treet 7days Platinum and I am far from impressed. Let's go to the replay. Lather provided by the big boar and TSD Lanolin with that great and powerful bay rum scent. The New LC was loaded and ready to go and the first stroke sent a warning sign. This blade was pretty smooth yesterday but today is a different story. Seems a bit rough. Lather is good so it isn't that. Just a big draggy. Full WTG pass wan't too bad but also didn't get as good a result as I'd hoped. Well, on to the XTG. Still felt pretty rough but not deadly. Well, until I went XTG on the neck anyway. Wow that's rough. Did the edge just fall off the blade? Still barely CCS at the finish of second pass. However, I'm not going to get crazy with the blade this rough. So, just a finish on the neck, some XTG with Gillette Slide. Rough, rough, rough and there it is boys and girls....a nick on the jawline by the goatee. Something told me I'd see that happen. Finished up with a barely DFS and called it a shave. I'm also calling it the last shave on the blade. In addition to the nick I'm nice and red from the irritation again and the alum was a real joy.....NOT! So, the Treet 7days Platinum? Definitely a TRICK!!! I'll figure out a setup for tomorrow before November starts. Happy Friday!
Well gents, I'm on 24 hour staff duty again. Which marks exactly one month since I joined. Anybody want to pull an all nighter in celebration?
Did the first interview already. "I didn't think this was the interview I agreed to..." He he. Scythe was my Great-Great Grandfather's. It hung on the side of the shed at my Grandma's house for 50 years, but I ended up with it. Made a new handle for it. Kept the patina and pitting on it, but sharpened it up. Used it once on some weeds, works way better than the machette. Work was very clear on what props could be included as part of a cosutme this year, so I decided not to push it. Will totally have it when I take the toddler trick or treating.
OCtober 30 Day Focus -- Cadet Open Comb October 30 Razor – Cadet Open Comb Blade – Astra SP Brush – VDH Boar Soap – Stirling Spice Post - Cold Water Splash, Witch hazel, Old Spice This morning I decided since I have 2 days left in the month, I might as well throw a new blade in the Cadet and see how it goes. I chose the Astra SP. It was not the best blade in my L6, but also not the worst. Set out with my usual 2 pass shave and everything was just fine. It started fine, the shave continued fine, it ended fine. It was a fine blade/razor combination (I really should have used some Fine aftershave). The shave ended up DFS after some touch up. No redness or irritation though the aftershave did have a little bite around the bottom of my chin. Overall just a . . . wait for it . . . fine shave. Tonight I will have time to peruse the nationwide box tour of goodies so will most likely be trying a new soap tomorrow. Several in the box I would like to try. I also plan to snag a couple brush handles to put my own knots in. One of the handles has already been cleaned out, but the other will require everything to be done. This is something I have wanted to try and think it will be a fun project. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
