I'm looking to get an original glass OS bottle on eBay and wonder if those that know what to look for can let me know if this is good to buy:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Emp...on-with-Box-EXCELLENT-Condition-/172082383096

The reason I ask is cause the picture of the back of the bottle (blurry as it may be) has less writing than the backs of other OS bottles I've seen.

I'm interested in the item in the link so any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Buy the bottle in the first link. It's a good price and is legit. Most bottles don't have that extra text.

Here is what you would see if it wasn't blurry. Or something similar, the bottle in your link is a little older than mine. (Pic from my bottle).

Shulton Old Spice bottles are better, when they contain the aftershave. My favorite aftershave.

The bottle in the first link: This bottle shows the volume beneath the contents "After Shave" dating it after about 1973. The bottles have Stopper #4.

The bottles in the second link are full which is what I look for. This style of glass bottle dates from 1956. These bottles have Stopper #3. If you like the scent, these are great.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. The link from TitanTTB is pretty cool. Definitely some good info that I never knew. I went with the bottle in the fist link since it would have been the early 70's that I would have gotten my first whiffs of OS and this purchase is because of that nostalgia and cause I hate the feel of the plastic bottle. I've read that the Indian made OS is closer to the original than what's on store shelves here in the US and I happen to know someone coming form India so they grabbed me a couple of bottles and I want to put it into the glass. While I would absolutely love to have some of the original stuff in it's original bottle, My biggest worry about getting this on eBay would be the possibility of paying for vintage and getting a bottle with the new stuff in there. I'm originally from NYC and therefore cynical. If anyone has a link to something they'd buy with confidence then I'm all over it.
Last question: I assume that others here have used their glass bottles to house the new stuff... so how do I go about getting the liquid into the bottle? Really small funnel?

Thanks again to all for the replies, suggestions, pictures and links!

I know someone will reply, but those tiny funnels do exist. I've also seen people talk about using squeeze bottles to transfer after shave, or using large syringes.

Trust me, when I tell, you that you will know the difference between original Shulton, and anything they try to just put in the bottle. The Indian smells very very close, but isn't as strong. . It can be had for a decent price on EBAY and Etsy, if you keep your eyes open.

I've had good luck on the bay for vintage Old Spice. The stuff from India is close, but I get a sneezing fit with their Lime. The real Shulton Old Spice can't be beat, the Lime being my favorite.

It's a shame Old Spice now has the phrase "smellmittment". Can you imagine OS ads from the 50's with guys saying that?????

Like I've mentioned, if anyone here can pass along a PM with a link to an ebay seller that they trust and would purchase themselves then I'd be all over it. (hint hint)

I've never tried the Indian OS but Ivy Club Spice aftershave is a Vi-Jon clone that can be found at some dollar stores and is close to the original OS scent.

I like the Indian Old Spice. It's close enough, to the Shulton, for me, and I don't feel guilty for splashing it on.

Btw, the empty old spice bottles are easy to come by, in most antique malls, for $5-$10.
Buying the empties on EBay shouldn't be a risk. No reason to mislead one on an empty bottle.

I had to empty my '50s era bottle because it had developed a slight funk that lingered as long as the scent itself. Don't have any Avon Brisk Spice anymore so I replaced it with the Cross Labs clone. I don't wear OS everyday anyway so it's close enough for me.

Here's an Old Spice thing I've been sitting on for a year, but never purchased. I think it's a good deal. Comes with aftershave, cologne, vintage areosol shave cream, and what appears to be a puck of shave soap. Seller has 10 in stock.

These small brass funnels are what I use to refill my bottles.

I had a small plastic funnel like those but lost it. I should look into those brass jobbies.

The lid from that OS tin would make a heckuva belt buckle.

Yeah it would. Fill in the back side with pewter and you would be in business.
