I picked this old Wade & Butcher that, despite the fact the blade heel requires some serious attention, I was captivated by the hand-carvings etched on one side of the horn scales. If the blade is beyond redemption, I know I can still use these old scales for another similar blade, W&B or comparable. Re: the heel — the real issue will be how much to grind down to maintain the proper curvature the blade. (see bottom pic) without compromising the integrity of the blade or altering the shape so much that it simply looks odd.
Looks like a easy fix for you kevin how ever that is a lot of steel to grind...would you use a DMT 325 stone?
I'm not sure at this point. I'll know more when I can hold the razor in my hands. I will check with someone with considerably more experience (hello, Glen? @gssixgun ) than I regarding the best approach on this one.
Is taking some of the smile out of the blade be an option at all...that would take out the chip on the toe and possibly help slightly evan things up ,with less steel removal on the heel...
